2019-04-18 08:58:53 UTC

Had a go at explaining Eucharistic theology to a prot this morning.

2019-04-18 08:59:31 UTC

Didn't do too badly, but tripped myself up a bit trying to explain how transubstantiaion isn't a symbol.

2019-04-18 09:32:35 UTC

Yeah figuring out the significance of transubstantiation took me a loooong time coming from a memorial communion background

2019-04-18 09:33:46 UTC

It's hard for prots to understand church words that aren't their specific dialect in general I thing

2019-04-18 09:41:54 UTC

@TheImperator really late, but Space Station 13 was my jam like 7 years back. Completely forgot about it.

2019-04-18 10:04:03 UTC

@SUPER MALE VITALITY™ Think the biggest hurdle is explaining to people that there are metaphysical entities in the world besides God. It was the concept of matter and substance where I lost them it seems.

2019-04-18 10:15:01 UTC

Transubstantiation is definitely what i struggle with the most when explaining things to prots.

Of course that and the whole, we don't worship saints.

2019-04-18 10:38:31 UTC

yeah as a Prot I see how transubstantiation is among the hardest things for Catholics to explain, primarily due to the very specific and nuanced philosophical concepts. That's why I appreciate the Orthodox approach more; the mechanics are a mystery. It avoids the risk effort and inherent risks of philosophical assumptions. Though ultimately I'm a symbolic/real presence dude.

2019-04-18 10:41:35 UTC

Its a mystery, dude, chill out

2019-04-18 10:41:54 UTC

I think the mechanics or at least a theory of sorts is something important.

2019-04-18 10:42:20 UTC

Otherwise it becomes a "no, it isn't" "yes, it is" conversation about whether the Eucharist is a symbol or not.

2019-04-18 10:42:58 UTC

Find it staggering that people who believe sola scriptura don't seem to understand the direct nature of the statement "This is my body".

2019-04-18 11:05:10 UTC

I think the Catholic approach makes more sense, mostly because I hate things just being a mystery.
