Do you really think
That if I cant point out a specific version
It has been there forever? lmao
We have already shown you Scripture, and the Fathers, how can you try to keep this illusion that "it has been that way forever"?
Should I also give you the hair color and show size of whoever spread the idea for the first time?
Probably dark brown hair <:thinksmirk:564102152239185920>
Paul literally says... LITERALLY, that if a woman departs from her husband, she is not to remarry, but reconcile
But of course, you must know better than the cruel Paul
Calling Paul cruel is really a high level of irony
Paul also said to not marry in the first place but be a volcel all your life
Paul said, as it is held too, that the greatest virtue is abstinence for God, which is dogmatically recognized as such
He doesn't say "marriage is evil, but deal with it and recognize it as legitimate"
So, do you want to accept divorce? Very well, but divorce is a separation, which doesn't enable another marriage
you havent actually shown scripture
at least, where it says "separate" or "put away", the translators not trying to jump through hoops usually write "divorce"
Yes, sure. And those must not remarry
what is the writing of the church fathers that was also supposedly shown?
its not what nano cyborg posted
since its a collectoon showing that the saints and fathers were not unanimous
I gave you St Augustine, but I can also give you Jerome and John Chrysostom and more, but why arque all of this instead of just conceding that those divorced can't remarry?
Scripture acknowledges divorce as a secular thing, but it says that whoever marries again is committing adultery, and whoever marries someone that's divorced is committing adultery.
Marriage is the joining of two souls
Sounds kinda permanent
it is permanent
that's why Adultery exists
based on autistic reading of an autsitic translation
here, have fun
it doesn't matter the translation
(when it comes to this)
Sounds pretty ableist :^)
I'm referring to Luke 16:18 for reference
**Luke 16:18 - Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition (DRA)**
```Dust
<18> Every one that putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and he that marrieth her that is put away from her husband, committeth adultery. ```
But anyways, I think we all agree that nobody is really in favor of divorce. We just a have a difference in the legitimacy of it.
I disagree with annulment too tbh
Unless the circumstances are dire, like forced marriage and such
I'm not familiar with it, but my Uncle (Catholic) married an Orthodox woman. Their divorce was and still is a shit show
Annulments are usually rarely given for a reason.
I mean, think about it.
The Vatican would rather Henry VIII schism'd from The Church than grant him an annulment.
That was political though
