Agnus Dei sounds like a pop song

2019-07-29 00:05:34 UTC

like, do you know what's going on..?

2019-07-29 00:14:25 UTC

this is a bruh moment

2019-07-29 00:14:50 UTC

I mean, as far as the ceremony though you always know what you're gonna get, and 9/10 times it's gonna be rushed and dispassionate because 60% of the attendees are boomers and 30% are Mexicans who are just there because their parents made them get confirmed as kids so now they feel obligated to show up between car detailings and drive bys.

It's not the song, it's the style

personal favorite

The preaching is the heartbeat of the church, if the congregation isn't growing in the knowledge and fullness of christ, and they think showing up twice a year and saying a few prayers is faith, what is that communion but a cracker to them, even if it is in reality the body of Christ?

2019-07-29 00:20:21 UTC

partially agree, they should be showing up every week. Fr. Chad says that maybe 60% of Catholics don't even know it's literally the Body, Blood, and Divinity of Christ that they are receiving, they think it's symbolic

2019-07-29 00:21:43 UTC

Truly a crisis with the same magnitude as the Arian heresy

2019-07-29 00:23:10 UTC

For the devout, all parts of worship are vital, the homily is the gauge of the spiritual health of the lay-member who relies fully on the guidance of their specific authority figure. Those lay Catholics wouldn't be blind to the realities of their faith if their preist was alive, vibrant, and unafraid to teach what is uncomfortable (or at least they wouldn't have the excuse). The catholic church just has the same numbers obsession as protestant churches get, they want to claim all these people as members in the name of statistics, but I'd wager purportionately very few catholics are genuinely Catholic, especially in the west.

2019-07-29 00:27:56 UTC

I seem to recall a doctrine/teaching/*something* that taking the body and blood without understanding its meaning is the same kind of sin as taking it under mortal sin

2019-07-29 00:28:15 UTC

Been thinking about this a lot actually over the last week, been feeling this weird call to Mt. Athos, praying to see if anything should come of it, but when you compare the life of the monks to just lay Orthodoxy, it's staggering just how massive the divide has become.

>what is communion but a cracker

2019-07-29 00:44:38 UTC

ayyy

2019-07-29 00:44:47 UTC

Hot damn boy, communion is the whole fucking point of mass

2019-07-29 00:45:07 UTC

Who cares if the homily feeds the never-ending ego of the teenager by telling them they’re right despite being wrong

2019-07-29 00:45:19 UTC

It’s _for gathering the people_

2019-07-29 00:45:32 UTC

Mass is not a social gathering you prot

2019-07-29 00:46:47 UTC

The priests shouldn’t be some lukewarm guys asking the teens to assist mass activities and give the church the moneys, it’s their duty to tell them the truth

2019-07-29 00:58:24 UTC

The point I'm trying to make is that Mass is for the edification of the spirit, and communion on its own is just maintenance of thr spirit

2019-07-29 00:58:27 UTC

Mass is a sacrifice, it's pretty hard to tell from the Novus Ordo Mass... to be fair

2019-07-29 01:00:16 UTC

Mass is indeed sacrifice, hence why in one of my comments I pointed out how they probably don’t know what’s going on during Agnus Dei

2019-07-29 01:04:04 UTC

Unless you want to (admirably so) rebuild parish life to the point people are coming over the course of the week to continually learn, the homily is it. If the congregation is not learning and growing on Sunday under the guidance of mentors, the best they have is their own interperetation of the Bible, why else do you think the presumption of boomer women is so brazen? Christian life is more than adherence to sacraments, vital as they may be. Water may sustain for a long time, and you may die without it, but that doesn't mean you won't eventually die of starvation without food.

2019-07-29 01:05:35 UTC

Hey there's nothing wrong with a good homily

2019-07-29 01:06:23 UTC

That’s what’s needed boy

2019-07-29 01:06:49 UTC

I don’t see any “gather the people” thing here

2019-07-29 01:07:24 UTC

The water is poisoned, it has to be replaced

2019-07-29 01:07:59 UTC

TLM should completely replace the Novus Ordo in my opinion

Communion(Eucharist) is really important

The Host and Chalice is really the Body of Christ and Blood of Christ.
