i mean have any of you seen the things pope francis says? like i said im mostly ignorant of theology, but i know enough to know he's probably way out of line, yet he is the divine representation of the exact tradition you say makes Catholicism the only true denomination.

2019-08-18 16:44:43 UTC

the catholic church is made up of sinners and blasphemers just like any other denomination, arguably more so from what ive seen of catholics

2019-08-18 16:46:20 UTC

so i found a church that seems to be full of good people from what i can tell, and i want to stick with it

2019-08-18 16:56:14 UTC

So you went to a protestant church out of pure dislike of current Catholic affairs

2019-08-18 16:56:49 UTC

I’m afraid one cannot truly take a decision to ‘convert’ without any theological and dogmatic background supporting it

2019-08-18 16:57:18 UTC

Otherwise it’s just a decision built on shallow ground, and it will eventually sink back down to point zero

2019-08-18 16:58:43 UTC

Indeed the Catholic Church has had its share of bad clergy, we’re human after all, but apart from apostolic succession (which is actually what gives authority to said clergy) it’s the preservation of the correct dogma that makes it stand as the true church hand in hand with the orthodox church (est. 1054)

2019-08-18 17:00:58 UTC

Sink in the abyss of protestantism and you’ll be sailing in a sea without wind, allowing yourself to be carried by the current, moving from denomination to denomination, but learn the true dogma and teachings of the church and you’ll be surely guided by the divine wind to that holy place of Heaven

You shouldn't stray from your faith out of spite for someone or something. That's the snake in your ear.

2019-08-18 17:07:32 UTC

I agree, but it's the sign of someone not really sure in their faith. Let them drift and find it eventually.

2019-08-18 17:11:49 UTC

The rock upon which Peter built his church was his confession of faith

@MawLr its not purely out of spite. its because i enjoyed the church i attended this morning. im only saying these things because of you guys in here telling me im wrong. how is someone who was raised nonreligious supposed to find a church non-arbitrarily, with no history or theology to draw from?

2019-08-18 17:23:30 UTC

The orthodox will call me scholastic but if you’re on the choosing stage, it’s all about learning

2019-08-18 17:32:09 UTC

Yeah I guess you could read a dry, long, exclusive book about the theology of a denomination that you don't accept

2019-08-18 17:34:40 UTC

Or you could read a short, friendly, casually worded treatise on the basic tenants of Christianity and the mysteries of the trinity

2019-08-18 17:42:09 UTC

Dry, long, exclusive..

2019-08-18 17:42:16 UTC

Have you ever read the catechism?

2019-08-18 17:42:53 UTC

Perhaps it’s all about being friendly and hip and cool to you?

2019-08-18 17:43:19 UTC

C.S. Lewis is good, yes, but why not take it directly from the source?

2019-08-18 17:46:28 UTC

> how is someone who was raised nonreligious supposed to find a church non-arbitrarily, with no history or theology to draw from?

By learning? The answer is staring you in the face. @ninjacats
