and with DP you only need one

2019-01-03 17:29:24 UTC

ports do not equal connectable monitors

2019-01-03 17:29:35 UTC

quite many GPUsonly supported 2 (on windows)

2019-01-03 17:29:50 UTC

mostly due how the gpu architechture and drivers worked

2019-01-03 17:30:15 UTC

specialy if you had VGA display connected

2019-01-03 17:30:39 UTC

oor 2 DVIs and hdmi

2019-01-03 17:30:50 UTC

you would need to choose what ones to use

2019-01-03 17:31:15 UTC

these days things are a lot better

2019-01-03 17:31:25 UTC

to the point you dont even need KVM switches anymore

2019-01-03 17:48:08 UTC

just daisy chain displayport friend

2019-01-03 22:31:52 UTC

this still cracks me up

2019-01-03 22:36:24 UTC

I posted that pic in /csg/ today

2019-01-03 22:36:33 UTC

Bless Nokia

2019-01-03 22:50:58 UTC

@Tervy Seriously? That would be real disappointing. How do I tell if my card only supports 2 without just plugging in more displays?

2019-01-03 23:08:04 UTC

Phones gonna be triggering trypophobia soon

2019-01-03 23:14:58 UTC

i mean most modern vidya cards support plenty of displays

2019-01-03 23:15:26 UTC

you can buy a low end gpu to push like 6 displays if youre not doing gaming or 3d

2019-01-03 23:17:33 UTC

also one displayport can be daisychained to multiple monitors

2019-01-04 00:54:24 UTC

@Windatica I assume my cards fine with a shitton of displays, but just wanted to confirm

2019-01-04 00:57:28 UTC

Also I'm just super sleep deprived today and not really thinking great, because there's no way my card wouldn't do at least 4

2019-01-04 02:42:14 UTC

Back then nothing

2019-01-04 02:42:40 UTC

These days check gpus specs if nothing else

2019-01-04 05:34:47 UTC

@Windatica @timsandtoms it's really not a problem anymore. These days most gpus support more screens. I was talking about 10+ years ago

2019-01-04 06:26:47 UTC

it not about no. of screen, it about max screen res

2019-01-04 06:32:40 UTC

display port wasn't available on low/mid gpus back then, so, if the gpu had only two connectors, there was nothing you could do

2019-01-04 06:33:06 UTC

Also if it had a VGA connector + 2 digital ones, using the VGA connector would usually disable one of the digital connectors

2019-01-04 13:49:55 UTC

would any of you happen to have experience with yocto

2019-01-04 14:52:42 UTC

Can anybody help me quick? I've seen you can only go MAX at 1/2 of untwisted wire on cat5. Going longer than that will kill my comms completely or will I just lose so many feet of communication?

2019-01-04 15:02:31 UTC

can you rephrase that in english

2019-01-04 15:02:50 UTC

what's a MAX at 1/2 of untwisted

2019-01-04 15:03:12 UTC

max what

2019-01-04 15:03:17 UTC

ye

2019-01-04 15:03:22 UTC

discord didnt scroll :(((

2019-01-04 15:03:46 UTC

Max length of untwisted wire in cat5

2019-01-04 15:04:53 UTC

So I got cable coming out of a switch, going to a another switch. From there it runs 250ft to a piece of equipment.

2019-01-04 15:05:11 UTC

why is it untwisted

2019-01-04 15:05:13 UTC

250 feet, yikes

2019-01-04 15:05:21 UTC

also, 250ft of untwisted?

2019-01-04 15:05:23 UTC

why

2019-01-04 15:05:24 UTC

you're not going to make 250ft with shitty untwisted cable
