that's already a few centuries ago
autistic question but would airport shops take gbp cash or would I need to get it exchanged?
reason I ask is that all the banks I have an account with charge a loading fee for non-sterling transactions
probably depends on the shop, but most airports I've been to (not those many anyway), the shops accept most of the bigger currencies like EUR, USD or GBP
I'll probably be going through abu dhabi <:alithink:327930371796893698>
theyll take it there, for sure
their conversion rates might fuck you over a bit tho
@transience which airport are we talking about? Big international airports like Dubai take (almost) every currency
AUH
Zürich takes every major currency but will give you change in CHF
Ah, let me check
GBP should be fine
Don't you have cards just in case?
I have cards but my bank charges a fee for international transactions
so I'm going to carry some cash, then get the rest of my money from the ATM
Paying in foreign currencies will almost always be more expensive than international transaction fees
They always put a charge if you pay in foreign cash. Those charges can be very high

Can't you get a travel card or something like that? There are certain prepaid credit cards which are especially designed for travel
In Switzerland we have that one, it's great for travel. I bet there's something like that in the UK
It's much cheaper than using a regular credit card, and if it gets stolen abroad, there is no big loss since it was prepaid and you're not going to put a lot on it
monzo does the first £200 of foreign transactions without a fee, then it's 3% after
I believe there are similar cards like that so I'll need to have a look
For the record, 3% is likely much less than paying with foreign cash
cash > everything else
uh Uhh uh use bitcoinc ash!
I have a card that doesn't have foreign transaction fees. Comes in handy
Yes but such things just exist in the US
Exists here too on my shitty little island
28degrees
It's kinda shitty that if I want to be a tightarse here you need amex/0fee mc
>amex
pretty much useless around here
Amex has special offers like $100 off $400 at large big box stores
many places don't accept them
It's fucking worth
it's visa or mastercard
And as a backup I'd have MasterCard
