(if anyone can find an updated list that'd be sweet)
i doubt there is more up to date listing since 2015
This also doesn't mean that they create less waste - it mostly means that the countries have good systems in place to make sure the shit doesn't get into the ocean
But one look at almost any Chinese beach will tell you they dump a lot of their trash in the rivers and ocean
I see people litter here 50x more than I ever saw in the states
littering yes, I was mostly talking food waste for some reason
Food waste I'm not sure about. Chinks love to waste food at weddings, but outside of that they are fine
even that ^ is quite complex to measure
does food waste count only "from homes"
or does it include industrial waste material too
Yeah I think the west wastes more food at home because chinks shop everyday for groceries
as chinks for sure use more pieces from their animals than most of the countries
I wouldn't say so, industrial food waste is by far the biggest food waste in the EU because of the strict regulations
grocery stores throw away tons of perfectly fine food only because it's past best before
and literaly throw > tear open packets/poison them to prevent dumbster divers
>locket trashbins
etc etc
Like I was in Aldi last week because my gf wanted hot pot and Aldi has really nice thin sliced beef. Deep frozen. It was 1 day past best before but fucking frozen. Who the hell cares, right? I did not even want it for free, I wanted to pay for it and they refused to sell it because they are not allowed
You would probably never see that in China
i know that feel
"this product has been in deepfreeze section for 3 years now but its 1 day past best before date so you cant buy it"
They don't even have a best before date, only "manufactured on" dates
that's a more sane thing to do
you know how old it is, you decide if you still want it
also aids in natural selection + immunology too
Well that's because it's tough to sue companies here if you're just a person
yes but "best before" crazyness is huge here
is it that bad in the US, too, or is it just overregulated EU autism?
Same in USA. My mom is terrible about it. Refuses to eat anything that's even almost expired
luckily i have decent deal with small market nearby
If she leaves a sandwich out for 2 hours she throws it out
one of their workers messages me if they have some good shit going to trash

_illegal_ but we dont care really
I pack sandwiches and eat them 6 hours after that sometimes
also thats why we mostly buy from lidl, everything is super fresh
There's a public owned grocery store in Switzerland that just sells everything on the expiry date at 50%, and if it's still there, they give it for free to homeless / family in need after the shop closes
But only on the expiry day, not one day later
Also there's https://toogoodtogo.com/
Love that app
