... so its working like its intended to do?

God I love that

@GrumpyGabe @Nutz
I got bored and did a thing. Here's a render of the parts I used for my AR

2019-10-02 12:39:25 UTC

Looks like a nice setup... You know you can't not get a can for it sooner or later.

2019-10-02 12:39:57 UTC

Render - you mean you modeled it yourself, or..?

2019-10-02 12:43:14 UTC

Nice!

2019-10-02 12:47:33 UTC

Gunstruction website/app lets you build ARs, since I didn't have a good pic handy I just put it together in their app and took a screenshot

2019-10-02 12:49:11 UTC

I think I'm definitely going to get a can eventually, but they're pricey and the process is complicated enough that I'm hesitating based on that. But I'd really love to not blow my eardrums out if I ever need to use this in an emergency

2019-10-02 12:50:15 UTC

Interesting... That site sounds like something I could waste a lot of time on...

2019-10-02 12:51:33 UTC

Indeed

2019-10-02 12:52:35 UTC

But it was a helpful learning tool for me

2019-10-02 12:57:56 UTC

But yeah, would also be nice just in general when you're out at the range or w/e. Is it the same process / fee to manufacture your own as to buy one? - A question that popped into my head for no apparent reason when I stumbled across fuel filters on the wish app...

2019-10-02 12:59:33 UTC

I have no idea, honestly. My plan was to go to a gun store that had a SilencerCo kiosk and purchase one through their system

2019-10-02 13:00:39 UTC

I'm eyeing one that's made specifically for 300BLK

2019-10-02 13:01:04 UTC

Makes things real quiet with the subsonic ammo

2019-10-02 13:01:06 UTC

That's funny that they have a kiosk for that

2019-10-02 13:01:34 UTC

makes sense though if they can make jumping through the hoops easy enough to get you to buy though

2019-10-02 13:01:57 UTC

Yeah, I'm impressed with how much they've tried to streamline the process

2019-10-02 13:06:10 UTC

So 300BLK all falls really close to the sonic threshold, so you can go above or below without much difference in mechanical function / gas management, right?

2019-10-02 13:06:54 UTC

Never studied up on it much, but that was the impression I've got.

2019-10-02 13:08:56 UTC

Yeah, it's a relatively slow round to begin with, so you can switch to really heavy subsonic ammo without any adjustments

2019-10-02 13:09:20 UTC

Or so I think, you might have to make sure you've got the right weighted buffer if you've also got a silencer

2019-10-02 13:11:22 UTC

It's definitely one reason I picked blackout over normal 5.56. When the barrel is that short, 5.56 is going to get really picky over the type of ammo you're using

2019-10-02 13:12:40 UTC

But I should be able to load any random blackout round and it'll function just fine

2019-10-02 13:13:02 UTC

Yeah, same principle as 9x39, from what I understand.

2019-10-02 13:15:24 UTC

Plus you can use standard mags and you you don't lose any capacity

2019-10-02 13:15:56 UTC

A lot of pros there.

2019-10-02 13:18:26 UTC

Or so I understand about the magazines...

2019-10-02 13:19:20 UTC

Yeah, the bullets are loaded into modified 5.56 brass, so any 5.56 magazine with hold the same number of blackout rounds

2019-10-02 13:20:26 UTC

Being able to use the cheap / common mags is a big plus IMO.

2019-10-02 13:21:32 UTC

If I decide blackout was a mistake, all I have to do is buy a replacement barrel to switch back to 5.56

2019-10-02 13:23:50 UTC

Or to just have more options...

2019-10-02 13:30:47 UTC

There's a *slight* risk that you can accidentally load a blackout round into a 5.56 chamber and make bad things happen, so I'm committed to only having one of those options at a time

2019-10-02 13:31:38 UTC

yeah do not do that
