I say pick an island in the north of Canada isolate it

2019-06-03 22:00:02 UTC

A lot of countries used to do it. It’s way more convenient to ship criminals off and forget about them than it is to feed them for their whole lives

2019-06-03 22:03:47 UTC

@RoadtoDawn Can we call it No Man Sky, i'm sure it would be just as crappy (don't know if the game is good now or not lol).

2019-06-03 22:04:19 UTC

I'm sure the king of the island gets to decide its name

2019-06-03 22:04:41 UTC

But yeah, that's the idea. It's crappy. Wouldn't recommend a visit xP

2019-06-03 22:04:44 UTC

@Shadows yes it was a joke.

2019-06-03 22:05:19 UTC

My Colosseum bloodsports for felons is not a joke though. We should definitely do that.

2019-06-03 22:11:03 UTC

We should get Kim Kardashian to focus her prison reform efforts on making Devil’s Island a thing

2019-06-03 22:12:16 UTC

The winner can earn their freedom

2019-06-03 22:12:36 UTC

@RoadtoDawn One of my many issues with the idea of an Island full of exiles, is you get (the person or party aggrieved) nor receive justice (the offender). Which would start creating even more problems then its looking to solve.

2019-06-03 22:16:56 UTC

Say,
What this person or person's murdered your family?
Well we sent him to an island where he can keep doing those kinds of things. Hope that makes you feel better.

2019-06-03 22:17:58 UTC

prisoner's island is a theory that's used in game match making quite a bit. It doesn't work for reformation (at all - it's actually been shown to make peoples' behavior worse), but it's certainly effective at keeping the people you don't want ruining your game for everyone else out of their games

2019-06-03 22:18:38 UTC

(DOTA 2 is a major example of a game that uses a prisoner's island style low priority queue for players that get reported a lot, and Valve has found that once someone ends up in there, it's REALLY hard for them to get back out)

2019-06-03 22:19:10 UTC

so basically - if there's any goal of reformation at all, don't use it. Otherwise, I mean, it's effective at what it's intended to do

2019-06-03 22:19:24 UTC

ethical, when talking about locking up criminals together in a real life context? eeeeeeeeeeh

2019-06-03 22:19:42 UTC

It’s meant for the extreme

2019-06-03 22:20:03 UTC

Like high profile criminals

2019-06-03 22:20:13 UTC

Dictators and such

2019-06-03 22:21:21 UTC

sure, I understand that. Then we get back to the question of ensuring that it only happens to those that are 100% without a doubt guilty of such a crime

2019-06-03 22:21:25 UTC

>thinking murderers have caring family members
😂

2019-06-03 22:21:33 UTC

also, there's still the question of if it's even ethical to do

2019-06-03 22:22:42 UTC

I’m pretty sure we’ll know if a dictator is guilty or not.

2019-06-03 22:22:57 UTC

I don't see how, if you had such a place, you would start growing a populist of individuals wanting to do something just to go there.

2019-06-03 22:23:06 UTC

Or not.

2019-06-03 22:27:35 UTC

This is a good thought experiment, as it begs the question when we talk about things like ethics, justice, etc.

2019-06-03 22:30:33 UTC

Its almost never ethical to create something that will cause more suffering then required.

2019-06-03 22:31:45 UTC

Ehem, y'all realize that banishment to an island ***IS*** prison, ¿right?
And that it's been tried before... And failed...

2019-06-03 22:35:20 UTC

depends on your criteria of failure

2019-06-03 22:36:52 UTC

Just bring back the Roman Colloseum. Replace Sunday night football with Sunday night head brawl.

2019-06-03 22:37:53 UTC

and then when hate speech laws eventually become a thing we'll get to fight lions for saying faggot

2019-06-03 22:38:28 UTC

Just make it for felons

2019-06-03 22:39:30 UTC

Or volunteers.

2019-06-03 22:52:49 UTC

@C1PHER
Napoleon BONAPARTE.
@DJ_Anuz
Now the Colloseum I might be able to get behind...
@Draco552
I'm not afraid of the lions.

2019-06-03 23:13:59 UTC

R/politics is a joke.

"Yeah. Investigate the FUCK out of everything possible. Ignore people on the right who say it's a witch hunt. Unearth so much shady fucking shit that McConnell gets buried under a mountain of corruption. Get EVERYTHING out into the light."

2019-06-03 23:14:37 UTC

How much money was spent on the investigation?

2019-06-03 23:15:05 UTC

Since when do democrats care about money?

2019-06-03 23:16:04 UTC

I'm just wondering

2019-06-03 23:16:46 UTC

I don't trust Reddit's headlines. A lefty friend sent me a link to a Reddit thread that said something like "Trump admits Russia won him the election" over his tweet where he said he had nothing to do with Russia helping him win the election

2019-06-04 02:28:07 UTC

I heardd they where crazzy expensive we have something simlair in canda but its cheaper to get real flowrss than this stuff. https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2019/06/03/ftd-files-bankruptcy-but-flower-deliveries-wont-interrupted/1331999001/
