I'm confused as to where you're getting that it wasn't heaven, explain like i'm five please

2019-10-06 21:37:42 UTC

I cannot parse that sentence

2019-10-06 21:38:42 UTC

When Christ was resurrected after thirty days, Mary went to touch him and he said touch me not (though more modern translations are "don't be clingy") stating that he hadn't yet ascended to see the father.

2019-10-06 21:38:56 UTC

That means that Christ didn't stay in heaven between the time of death and resurrection.

2019-10-06 21:39:24 UTC

Time and god is not easy to explain ever

2019-10-06 21:39:27 UTC

When Christ spoke to the thief on the cross saying "today you will be with me in paradise" he couldn't have referred to heaven, as Christ himself didn't enter heaven until after the resurrection.

2019-10-06 21:39:54 UTC

God moves through time like you move north to south. that is the first problem of that sentence

2019-10-06 21:39:55 UTC

Read the apostles creed

2019-10-06 21:40:29 UTC

@ThePortugueseGuy that's not backed by scripture.

2019-10-06 21:40:34 UTC

Do you have a verse for that. I'm not saying I don't believe what you're saying but I'm having trouble remembering that specifically in the Easter story

2019-10-06 21:40:45 UTC

I am sure

2019-10-06 21:41:41 UTC

i'll be back with the verse if you want

2019-10-06 21:43:07 UTC

psalm 90:4 " 4 For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night."

2019-10-06 21:43:50 UTC

should have @'ed DJ. I was talking about what he was saying about the interaction between Jesus and Mary

2019-10-06 21:45:01 UTC

i was @'ed so i did quote

2019-10-06 21:45:29 UTC

@Draco552 sorry had to find it. Gimme a moment.

2019-10-06 21:45:35 UTC

It's all good

2019-10-06 21:48:00 UTC

Luke 23:42 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

John 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

2019-10-06 21:48:19 UTC

please use ESV

2019-10-06 21:48:40 UTC

that is the kind of english that i cannot read

2019-10-06 21:49:03 UTC

i will search No problem

2019-10-06 21:49:22 UTC

@ThePortugueseGuy due to the poetic nature of Psalms they're not always a great source of definitive doctrine imo, and a lot of them contradict each other.

2019-10-06 21:49:22 UTC

@ThePortugueseGuy learn to KJV heathen! :P

2019-10-06 21:50:23 UTC

We do have in portuguese some KJV like translation and i do know the verses that way

2019-10-06 21:50:42 UTC

but old kjv is always a struggle

2019-10-06 21:50:57 UTC

Lol the KJV is dying. Sadly.

2019-10-06 21:51:05 UTC

More modern translations lose so much symbolism.

2019-10-06 21:51:40 UTC

Modern translations of numbers kill me. The entire purpose and meaning of those scriptures are lost when put into simple language.

2019-10-06 21:51:58 UTC

esv is not that bad

2019-10-06 21:52:07 UTC

it's not the amplified

2019-10-06 21:52:16 UTC

There's no reason you have to change the meaning of the text just because you change thee and thine to you and yours

2019-10-06 21:52:39 UTC

Sitteth to sits and spake to spoke

2019-10-06 21:52:41 UTC

It's not so much that, they will rewrite the sequence of the words.

2019-10-06 21:52:48 UTC

Yeah that annoys me.

2019-10-06 21:53:02 UTC

So instead of 6 poles by 8 sheaves they do 8 sheaves with 6 poles.

2019-10-06 21:53:09 UTC

DESTROYING THE SYMBOLIC NATURE!

2019-10-06 21:53:14 UTC

But the entire classical poetic tradition of English is dying, not just scripture.

2019-10-06 21:53:52 UTC

every single measurement of the Tabernacle is intentionally placed, and not for engineering reasons.

2019-10-06 21:57:01 UTC

I looked up the verses, just to make sure there isn't extra context furrowed away somewhere (It's been to long since I've opened my bible) and also to get it in a slightly different translation (NIV shitter here). All I can say is that its interesting and that I'm going to bring it up with my dad later and see what he has to say and make him put his 8(?) years of schooling to use

2019-10-06 21:59:46 UTC

Haha let me know what he says. Is he a pastor?
