I think the main claim of the dollar amount would be that he had lost the ability to speak at many universities for several years because of the professors’ claims. I don’t think he necessarily would be awarded that much, but I can understand having the big dollar amount attached to it in order to get the University’s attention.

If it's as @Shadows said, then it seems likely that continuing to refer to him as a nazi will propogate to the student body. And I can't say I'm confident that student bodies do a good job of being critical of claims.

Its hard to say who was pushing that more in that school, the professors, or the woke student body (that in turn made the professors accept it). I can't say i know which came first.

For defamation? Conceivably that could be a good argument. But again, Matt was not convinced that the position of the school actually cost Peterson that much money.

If schools were teaching kids that person A is terrible and no one should associate with them, that would cost someone money. Problem is proving damages. Lastly there might be some terrible laws in canada that peterson is using. (which would be bad in principle but allow him to do it)

It could* cost someone money. But it would be nice to know if it did cost him money and if it did cost him the amount demanded.

I'm aware that in the U.S., public suits are readily available. I'm not sure about civil suits, though.
