That’s merely an example. We had our daily complaints against the president, and we would make fun of him on a regular basis. But it wasn’t anything we would say outside of our family or close friends. Even in Utah, I was called a racist in High School simply for saying I didn’t like Obamacare

2018-12-31 06:27:54 UTC

Meaning that, while a fair amount of bashing went on, it was never in any public setting because we were well aware of the probable backlash.

On an unrelated note, I have to disagree slightly with Matt and Blonde about Jordan Peterson suing Wilfred Laurier. I wouldn’t describe the interaction between the professors and Lindsay Shepherd as “a private conversation”. It was two professors, speaking on behalf of the University, enforcing University policy. In order to enforce that policy, they, as official representatives of the school, stated that JP was like Hitler and that students couldn’t listen to him because of that. I think that’s a decent case for defamation, especially since the whole point of the meeting was to ensure that students at Wilfred Laurier would not hear JP’s perspective.

2018-12-31 06:34:49 UTC

I think the thrust of Matt's argument was the cost of the lawsuit. He was not convinced that the defamation (if it was defamation) cost him 1.5 million in some sort of damage.

2018-12-31 06:35:41 UTC

Isn’t it Canadian money? So how much is that in real money? Lol

2018-12-31 06:36:00 UTC

@Psychlops924 Not only that, but he only started it because the University didn't change its tune, they are still pushing the same nonsense that caused that problem. So he wants to try teach them something also.

2018-12-31 06:36:08 UTC

Ha. But I don't think that would change the argument.

2018-12-31 06:36:41 UTC

1.1 million US, for those wondering

2018-12-31 06:39:20 UTC

Speaking gigs at Universities can pay a lot. I think the main claim of the dollar amount would be that he had lost the ability to speak at many universities for several years because of the professors’ claims. I don’t think he necessarily would be awarded that much, but I can understand having the big dollar amount attached to it in order to get the University’s attention.

2018-12-31 06:40:17 UTC

That's a defensible argument.

2018-12-31 06:43:54 UTC

If it's as @Shadows said, then it seems likely that continuing to refer to him as a nazi will propogate to the student body. And I can't say I'm confident that student bodies do a good job of being critical of claims.

2018-12-31 06:44:24 UTC

Only speculating.

2018-12-31 06:46:46 UTC

Its hard to say who was pushing that more in that school, the professors, or the woke student body (that in turn made the professors accept it). I can't say i know which came first.

2018-12-31 06:48:13 UTC

Also, i think that may have been the very first time i typed the word "woke"..... kill me.

2018-12-31 06:48:32 UTC

This is how it starts

2018-12-31 06:49:24 UTC

Back to the other persons question, does saying "Thanks Obama" count?

2018-12-31 07:08:51 UTC

I'd have to see the arguments made by Peterson's lawsuit, but wouldn't the best argument be that the meeting revealed that the official position of the school had been to disseminate information that peterson was equivalent to a nazi?

2018-12-31 07:11:20 UTC

For defamation? Conceivably that could be a good argument. But again, Matt was not convinced that the position of the school actually cost Peterson that much money.

2018-12-31 07:13:09 UTC

If schools were teaching kids that person A is terrible and no one should associate with them, that would cost someone money. Problem is proving damages. Lastly there might be some terrible laws in canada that peterson is using. (which would be bad in principle but allow him to do it)

2018-12-31 07:14:53 UTC

It could* cost someone money. But it would be nice to know if it did cost him money and if it did cost him the amount demanded.

2018-12-31 07:15:21 UTC

Do you think the suit documents are publicly available?

2018-12-31 07:15:53 UTC

I'm aware that in the U.S., public suits are readily available. I'm not sure about civil suits, though.

2018-12-31 07:16:02 UTC

I haven't really paid attention.

2018-12-31 07:16:36 UTC

Also, if peterson drops his suit do the professors lose grounds to sue?

2018-12-31 07:17:57 UTC

I'll probably pay more attention when the courts reach a result.
If the outcomes are bad, I'll just point to it as an example of why canada needs to fix its laws.

2018-12-31 07:19:58 UTC

When it gets a large enough contingent of public servants at the same time. I think it is unlikely

2018-12-31 07:27:25 UTC

Linking from him why he is suing.

2018-12-31 10:53:42 UTC

I used the Dark Souls mod that changed the 'You Died' message to 'Thanks Obama'

2018-12-31 10:53:46 UTC

Does that count?

2018-12-31 11:38:01 UTC

lol

2018-12-31 13:00:51 UTC

Happy New Year from Straya

Who would be Ornstein and Smough of Obama’s administration?

2019-01-01 01:51:41 UTC

Smough would definitely be Biden, considering all of his creepy shit involving little girls.

2019-01-01 01:52:20 UTC

Being a potential pedophile fits nicely with being denied a place among the knights because of your penchant for cannibalism.

2019-01-01 01:52:35 UTC

Ornstein would probably be Eric Holder.

2019-01-01 02:03:21 UTC

I've never really liked the "Creepy old Biden" assertions, he is just a old person (and foolish). I'm not a fan of people looking into more then that unless they have evidence.

2019-01-01 02:04:12 UTC

This is outside of anyone just trying to be funny, which i don't care about lol

2019-01-01 02:06:08 UTC

I never looked into it enough to know if there was anything there or not, but he did it so much and it was so creepy.

2019-01-01 02:11:18 UTC

I know Why people say it, but men get demonized all the time for just being around kids/women as it is, i don't enjoy pushing that same narrative about someone i just don't happen to like.

2019-01-01 02:12:19 UTC

That's a good point.
