I know I'm still trying to figure a lot of this out too, and I can tell I still have conflicting views on the proper definition of Left/Right-wing, how to use the terms, how sufficient they are to describe political or cultural positions

At this point I think it's safe to say that they are necessary terms to describe aspects of moral & political thought, but far from sufficient

And they seem to provide a good first-level classification of moral/political philosophies. Like how we use "Kingdoms" as the first-level description of an organism

In my opinion, a philosophy has to answer the ancient question of the One and the Many. Is the universe all made up of one 'thing', the monad. Or is there more, different 'things' that exist? This question will radically change your worldview depending on how you answer it. You could think about the question as a problem, as someone recently put brilliantly like a philosphical math problem you should solve, but with a presupposition that you want to take and run with.

'Kingdoms', or animal groups, presupposes that something can have identity over time, which is an incredible assertion that needs grounding.

I absolutely hate the "forced to give birth" angle when people cook up hypotheticals. Banning abortion is a call to *inaction*.

It's like saying we force women into motherhood because we have laws against child neglect, actually it's even less than that

The rape scenario does change the logic and I'm sympathetic to it, but once you're pregnant if everyone does their best *nothing* you'll still give birth

I don't know when I heard it, or who said it, but it was some doofus whining about how the election of Trump makes it clear that 'the course of human history does not bend toward justice.'

I've always hated that phrase, because what kind of head in the dirt moron do you have to be to look at the course of history and think that humanity is becoming inherently more moral?

@wolfman1911 Its sad at how people look at the past.... We are not better (or worst) people... (Maybe you could say we know more). We all deal with the same or different problems/challenges all throughout history.

There’s less violence, but there’s also virtually zero sexual integrity and people are losing respect for God.

So I generally agree that any improvements in society at large are asymmetrical and are fleeting.

But then again, you worry about things that i don't.
