Oh O__o

2019-10-22 05:15:44 UTC

I never knew the RS was 4wd

2019-10-22 05:22:41 UTC

@Old Man Hound Might try jacking up that corner so that wheel is off the ground and wiggling it. Could be a few things, but one May be worn out suspension bushings. But you might be Able to track it down that way.

2019-10-22 10:54:01 UTC

you can break an axle even with CVs

2019-10-22 10:54:05 UTC

usually the CV fails though

2019-10-22 10:56:22 UTC

and technically the Focus RS is awd not 4wd 😉

2019-10-22 11:33:19 UTC

Time on deck is Ø5:32 and vc is in use.
😃😃😃😃

@Just for youtube [NB1] that's why I asked if they had a turbo and if they put the car in gear in the opposite direction of the car's momentum - it takes a buttload of torque to break an axle
them saying the car was chonking during cornering tells me it's the cv

2019-10-22 15:19:03 UTC

yea

2019-10-22 15:19:12 UTC

i mean technically an axle can just fatigue

2019-10-22 15:19:24 UTC

and if you're like wide open over bumps or off curbs and stuff

2019-10-22 15:19:41 UTC

the mass of the wheel/tire/brake can shock an axle enough to break it doing stuff like that

2019-10-22 15:22:49 UTC

well sure, but they never said anything about extraordinary circumstances like you mentioned

2019-10-22 15:23:17 UTC

and they'd know it when it happens like that

2019-10-22 15:24:14 UTC

well he did say he shifted it like a racecar which is pretty extraordinary

2019-10-22 15:24:41 UTC

I didn't see any mention of that

2019-10-22 15:24:43 UTC

and i'm wide open over bumps and stuff often and it doesn't really feel like it's beating the shit out of the drivetrain although it definitely is

2019-10-22 15:25:15 UTC

unless he just meant like

2019-10-22 15:25:17 UTC

grinding gears

2019-10-22 15:25:22 UTC

which he might've

2019-10-22 15:25:27 UTC

either way

2019-10-22 15:25:30 UTC

cvs fail all the time

2019-10-22 15:25:35 UTC

they're just a wear item like a bearing

2019-10-22 15:25:39 UTC

as you know

2019-10-22 15:25:40 UTC

so

2019-10-22 15:25:42 UTC

gotcha

2019-10-22 15:25:47 UTC

he might not have been doing anything special

2019-10-22 15:26:25 UTC

mechanic has been working on it this morning

2019-10-22 15:26:30 UTC

should be done by 130

2019-10-22 15:26:38 UTC

that was in reference to me asking this

2019-10-22 15:26:38 UTC

yea i've done a million of them

2019-10-22 15:26:47 UTC

ohh

2019-10-22 15:27:05 UTC

i thought he just meant like flying through the gears

2019-10-22 15:27:17 UTC

shifting with throttle open type stuff

2019-10-22 15:27:30 UTC

yeah

2019-10-22 15:27:55 UTC

but yeah they just wear out like anything else pretty much

2019-10-22 15:28:11 UTC

you don't necessarily have to be doing anything inappropriate to make them fail

2019-10-22 15:28:28 UTC

yeah............idk

2019-10-22 15:28:50 UTC

but doing inappropriate stuff will help them fail quicker

2019-10-22 15:29:33 UTC

I get the feeling they didn't get the oil changed in the 3 years they had it cuz the cv boots would have shown early signs of failure
