Mediatek doesn't release sources or any documentation for their SoCs, so they get much less custom ROMs developed for them, and the ROMs they do get are often more buggier and less stable.

The Mediatek RN3 has it better than most as a majority of Mediatek phones never get any ROMs for them, so you're stuck on whatever chinky ROM the phone comes with
