They intercede on your behalf to God

2018-02-12 16:58:40 UTC

you're praying for them to intercede with God on your behalf

2018-02-12 16:58:54 UTC

ah ok I see. I can understand that

2018-02-12 16:58:55 UTC

because they are people who lived holy lives and we know they are in heaven

2018-02-12 16:58:57 UTC

And ask God to forgive you or help you or whatever you wish

2018-02-12 16:58:59 UTC

so bear with me then

2018-02-12 16:59:05 UTC

sure

2018-02-12 16:59:23 UTC

doenst the bible clearly state that Jesus is the only figure you can intercede on our behalf?

2018-02-12 17:00:00 UTC

which scripture are you referring to?

2018-02-12 17:00:41 UTC

Jesus is our advocate with the Father...lemme google for a min

2018-02-12 17:01:17 UTC

in the OT priests handled that role of intercession between humans and the almighty

2018-02-12 17:01:32 UTC

when Jesus returned that process of priests and sacrifice was abolished.

2018-02-12 17:01:45 UTC

recall the rendering of the curtain the temple when Jesus died.

2018-02-12 17:01:57 UTC

He says "No man comes to the father except thru me"

2018-02-12 17:02:07 UTC

Hebrews 7:25: “Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them,”

Romans 8:34: “Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.”

2018-02-12 17:02:52 UTC

@Fevs y'all need a biblebot in here tbh

2018-02-12 17:03:09 UTC

seriously ^

2018-02-12 17:06:22 UTC

Bots in here is probably not a good idea unless its one that we code ourselves or can verify that it is secure

2018-02-12 17:08:39 UTC

@Fevs hurry up and program a bot, nerd

2018-02-12 17:08:42 UTC

how close is the tradition and dogma of orthodox compard to roman chatholic

2018-02-12 17:11:03 UTC

I have not been active in the christian religions for some time after leaving the jehovahs wittnesses

2018-02-12 17:11:29 UTC

@Der Jäger I think the "No one can come to the father" is more a saying of "no one can get to heaven except through me"

2018-02-12 17:13:11 UTC

most common belife on that I think is jesus is the only way to get to god or be in right standing with him right?

2018-02-12 17:15:51 UTC

Anyway, I found nothing that says that Jesus is the only one. What Cato said is correct and none can get to heaven except through Jesus, but that's not really what is going on. We're not praying for them to let us into heaven. We're asking the Saints to pray for us and on our behalf

2018-02-12 17:16:23 UTC

So no, Jesus isn't the only one who can pray to God

2018-02-12 17:16:34 UTC

which is effectively what was asked

2018-02-12 17:16:52 UTC

^true according to the dogma I grew up with in catholic church

2018-02-12 17:17:19 UTC

so when the bible says he is at the right hand of God interceding with us...to me that means he has our back so God doesn't destroy us in His rightous anger lol

2018-02-12 17:17:28 UTC

so we pray to Jesus for forgiveness of sin

2018-02-12 17:17:32 UTC

for guidance etc

2018-02-12 17:18:02 UTC

are there any verses in the bible that discusses saints being able to perform that same function

2018-02-12 17:18:51 UTC

from biblical understang of scripture I have read I dont belive saints are technicly a thing

2018-02-12 17:19:21 UTC

no, because they cannot

2018-02-12 17:19:49 UTC

though much of the bible suffers in translation and from what I can tell otthodoxy has the dogma and tradidtions handed down that predate text

2018-02-12 17:20:08 UTC

here's what the textbook says

2018-02-12 17:22:11 UTC

John 14:6 Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me.

2018-02-12 17:22:20 UTC

__**Others Besides God Who Are Depicted in the Holy Icons**__

Besides God we depict in the holy icons **the Mother of God, the holy angels and holy people.**

We should pray to them not as to God, but as being close to God, as having pleased Him by their holy life. Out of love for us they pray for us before God, and we should ask for their help and intercession because the Lord for their sake will more speedily hear our sinful prayers.

2018-02-12 17:23:46 UTC

They are the "great cloud of witnesses" that are mentioned as attesting to our faith.

2018-02-12 17:25:00 UTC

I think the admiration of saints and the practice comes from the merger of ancestor worship that the pagan belifes had I could be wrong

2018-02-12 17:25:48 UTC

@QuackDoktor are you quoting revilation out of curiousity

2018-02-12 17:26:26 UTC

So, the long and short of it is that the saints are watching over us, and that we're asking them to pray to God on our behalf that he might hear our prayers. They are not divine, they are not being prayed to as we pray to God. They are simply people who lived holy lives and are praying all of us
