here's the quick rundown
in 1961, two islands were discovered off the coast of antarctica by the magga dan expedition
they were named the terra nova islands
in 1963, a helicopter sent to confirm their existence ran out of fuel and ditched there are conflicts in the reports so I don't know if it hit land or not
in 1970, the USGS registered the islands
some time between 1970 and 1980, the islands stopped existing
