Still better than a commie

2018-12-13 11:09:48 UTC

@Mr. X You'd think communism would do that, and not them being largely Amerindian states, closer to East Asians?
Technically there were only two communist states in America - Cuba, as you know, and Grenada for a short while. Grenadan ones was funded by Cuba, but was ovethrown by the US, after they changed leader to much more "radical" one.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grenada#Coup_and_execution_of_Maurice_Bishop
You also had various other strains of leftist rule, which were not necessarily communist. Generally region was fucked up much by the US (due to Manifest destiny and Monroe doctrine, meaning they, true to calling themselves "Americans" should rule in imperialist fashion over the whole damn continent, before they try the world after WWII), so it's not strange populist and leftist movements gained over such importance there.
Of those I can mention the Nicaragua, I honestly have no broader idea of what they are, but they're sanctioned to shit together with Venezuela today and likewise have anti-government riots. I believe they're following the "theology of liberation", and even have a priest in the government (which goes directly against Vaticanum II and clergy and monks not involved in politics), but unsure. Nicaragua was associated with the Eastern Bloc as far as I know, but not following the ideology of Marxism-Leninism.

Allende of Chile, who I believe (despite everyone calling him a Hitler tier totalitarian communist leader elected democratically much like him) was a democratic socialist, so something closer in line to George Orwell than Joseph Stalin really. He was interesting in that he was close in inventing the internet, and wanted to base economics on it, much like the "Venus Project" associated with Zeitgeist movement today. I feel it's a shame CIA-funded Pinochet overthrew him, it would be interesting to see. As a side of note Hoxha finally denounced Mao Tse-Tung, after him in his senile old years congratulated Pinochet on his achievement, after the Sino-Soviet split and weirdly understood good relations with the US&A.

Mayans of Chiapas, I am not sure how you could categorise them, some sort of national anarchists? Theoretically they can't really be described as anything really, Neo-Zapatistas. Anarchists like to claim them tho. Their leader Marcos is allegedly a Spaniard, but they're generally based on the poor Mayan population of the region. Some compared them to Kurds in that they both won't really achieve much in a long term. They still increased their living conditios too. I can only sympathise with Native Americans who were stripped of their damn continent by mutts and colonists, much like Germans did when invading east of the Elbe, Slavic land.

Hugo Chavez originally also began as a democratic socialist, surprisingly, this was ideology of his party besides "Bolivarianism", whatever it meant. In long term, he (and Maduro) didn't introduce much beyond a glorified social-democracy. And overrelation with China, Venezuela is extremely tied to China. This is the price of sozi rule I imagine. How come Scandinavia does so good (Denmark have bigger private sector than Venezuela, where 70% of capital is in private hands), but not them? I guess, they can't manage their shit better lol. Today it's sanctions and funding anti-government riots largely too. There was an attempt at coup, funded by the US, I believe around 2002.
Evo Morales of Bolivia you could argue is either some kind of a socialist or sozi, he managed his shit much better. I'm not sure what's even his ideology and that of his party. I guess it's just left-wing populism. Bolivian Gaddafist who himself was white hated him and his government, said they incited the "white genocide". He claims to be a Catholic, but also mix it up with Pagan beliefs. Really odd guy. He is one of the few Native American leaders of the region, the region even had.
Left-wing populist also won in Mexico recently, over PRI (they caused huge anti-clerical persecutions) and PAN (which arose as a guerilla during said persecutions), the mainstream parties, much like Bolsonaro (similar party to PRI, PT hold power for over 8+ year). Before a similar left-wing populist also won in Peru, but didn't achieve much. So I don't expect much from him.

The "leftists" who ruled Brazil and Chile, varied from social-democrats to social-liberals. Like the Silva family of Brazil of PT. PRI was openly fascist (at least economically, as historians describe it) during time (funny Trotsky fled there), to social-democrat, to party of power like PT. Petistas fucked up Brazil so good I'm not surprised Bolsonaro won. In Chile, it's said that the econimic miracle is thanks to reforms of those social-democrats after Pinochet gave away power, rather than his Chicago Boy neoliberal economic reforms, but can't say for sure.

2018-12-13 11:24:38 UTC

Hope it describes it for you for good @Mr. X .

2018-12-13 11:24:52 UTC

US&A variously tried to fight with democratic elections of those leftist parties, by funding coups.

2018-12-13 11:24:59 UTC

Despite claiming to be bastion of democracy lol.

2018-12-13 11:25:03 UTC

What this describing again?
