Yeah, it's very rare. And psychopaths tend to have shallow emotivity as opposed to a complete lack of it.

If its to merely punish then that's also pointless since it's preventing the person from feeling punished too.

Killing sprees are destined to happen eventually. Killing them wont prevent that at all.

It is pointless to waste valuable time and precious resources trying to "rehabilitate" them. That could be used on criminals that haven't slaughtered innocent people.

I believe the slaughtered people shouldn't be slaughtered.

Therefore keeping the killers alive and studying them is best for the innocent lives.
