thank you, that helps a bit when thinking

2018-05-05 02:26:40 UTC

Most public-sector workers receive the Cuban peso with a minority receiving the convertible peso.

2018-05-05 02:26:44 UTC

No problem. @mcstubbs

2018-05-05 02:28:19 UTC

h

2018-05-05 02:41:22 UTC

@Deleted User So then capitalism is present in cuba, and socialism dosen't even exist politically, thanks for admitting that.

2018-05-05 02:41:46 UTC

@mcstubbs Vouchers I believe were used during the reconstrution period.

2018-05-05 02:44:48 UTC

@Deleted User It's not so cut and dry. Technically speaking, it's economy is somewhere between socialism and state capitalism. And there are very strong Marxist currents in the Cuban Communist Party. Raul and Diaz-Canel may want to model the economy after that of China, but that doesn't mean it's happened nor does it mean it necessarily will.

2018-05-05 02:48:17 UTC

So they want to make the country capitalist?

2018-05-05 02:49:34 UTC

A "Socialist Market Economy" which some believe is a form of State Capitalism.

2018-05-05 02:50:48 UTC

It is capitalism in pretty much every form, privately owned, little restrictions, and of course, exploits it's workers like slaves.

2018-05-05 02:51:12 UTC

Interesting to see how so called communist leaders want to model themselves off of china, which has been renowned for the worst working conditions on the planet.

2018-05-05 02:52:39 UTC

Not true. Their system is predicated on the predominance of public-ownership and state-owned enterprises within the framework of a market economy.

2018-05-05 02:53:48 UTC

"state capitalism" is an entirely descriptive term
you can't make a state capitalist society
you have to be labelled as one

2018-05-05 02:56:29 UTC

@Deleted User Then why are private businesses so prominent in china? There are over 40 million privately owned businesses there, and despite china's actions, their private businesses are thriving much more than that of state businesses: https://itif.org/publications/2016/11/29/despite-china-favoring-state-owned-enterprises-its-private-companies-are

2018-05-05 02:58:54 UTC

@DA GOMMIE JOO Not entirely accurate. According to Bukharin, "State Capitalism" is when all sectors of production and important social institutions fall under state management. He identified it as a particular stage of capitalist development. Lenin also wrote about state capitalism. Of course the concept dates back to the First International. There are various definitions, many of which are non-Marxist.

2018-05-05 03:00:14 UTC

Lenin allowed for capitalism to thrive in the USSR, despite claiming that he was a marxist, of course, lenin also nearly caused the collapse of the USSR, which is partially why stalin had to remove most of lenin's policies, because if the USSR kept them, it would have collapsed.

2018-05-05 03:01:50 UTC

Kind of ironic that people call marxism marxist leninism even though lenin was hardly a marxist at all, and favored capitalism a lot.

2018-05-05 03:02:22 UTC

the NEP was actually pretty successful
it was the command economy under trotsky that did a lot of damage

2018-05-05 03:02:40 UTC

@Deleted User He introduced the New Economic Policy as an expedient measure given the material conditions. It was necessary at the time as not only was the country a pre-capitalist semi-feudal backwater, but it had just finished undergoing it's "War Communism" phase.

2018-05-05 03:02:53 UTC

@DA GOMMIE JOO#7269 >The capitalist economy did better than the communist economy
Really makes you think.

2018-05-05 03:03:06 UTC

Also, only someone that knows little about Marxist theory would claim that Lenin wasn't a Marxist. He was an Orthodox Marxist until his death.

2018-05-05 03:03:30 UTC

the NEP wasn't capitalist
it was more of a demsoc economy

2018-05-05 03:03:39 UTC

kind of like what cuba has

2018-05-05 03:03:49 UTC

@Deleted User What warcommunism? The civil war ended about a decade before the NEP was put into place, even if people were starving still, the NEP did nothing to help out in that, all it did was allow capitalism to thrive.

2018-05-05 03:03:58 UTC

@DA GOMMIE JOO#7269 And dem socs are capitalist.

2018-05-05 03:04:11 UTC

"dem socs are capitalist"
no you're thinking of socdems

2018-05-05 03:04:18 UTC

What's the difference?

2018-05-05 03:04:42 UTC

social democracy is declawed capitalism
demsoc has some actual socialism in it

2018-05-05 03:05:42 UTC

Wait what? The countries today that claim to be democratic socialists are capitalist, bernie sanders, the walking corpse is a dem soc and he is a capitalist.... care to elaborate?

2018-05-05 03:06:26 UTC

@Deleted User I stand by what I say, unless you have proof that he was actually a marxist, then I will continue to do so.

2018-05-05 03:06:44 UTC

@Deleted User It was a market-oriented policy which included monetary reform and the introduction of foreign capital. "War Communism" was the system which existed from 1918 until the year 1921. The NEP was implemented in March of that same year.

2018-05-05 03:06:48 UTC

Bernie shouldn't have described himself as a democratic socialist

2018-05-05 03:06:56 UTC

yeah he really isn't one

2018-05-05 03:07:12 UTC

@Deleted User You obviously know very little about Soviet history.

2018-05-05 03:07:19 UTC

@Deleted User So it wasn't present at all during war communism, thank you for confirming that.

2018-05-05 03:07:27 UTC

And the Scandinavian countries call themselves social democracies

2018-05-05 03:07:34 UTC

@buyXRBpls Isn't that a no true scotsman though?

2018-05-05 03:08:25 UTC

@buyXRBpls I mean, how do you really know that demsocs aren't equivalent to socdems?

2018-05-05 03:08:35 UTC

@Deleted User You claimed the NEP was introduced a decade after the Civil War ended. That's false. The Russian Civil War lasted from 1917 to 1922.

2018-05-05 03:08:51 UTC

it's like thinking hitler was actually a socialist just because he called himself one

2018-05-05 03:09:23 UTC

@🖤 Limeboo 🖤 Well we know that he wasn't because of the evidence that was presented, (And the fact that he didn't actually call himself a marxist socialist).
