.... no, more than a hundred years further back
whereas in the past it was yk... like in the thousands really... in controlled waves. and from countries where there culture is different. but still european
I'm not saying "lets go open borders". We need immigration reform. I also believe immigrants need to assimilate much better. I'm simply pointing out that we're a country of immigrants white or otherwise. And that I support people's desire to better their lives. That's exactly what white people did coming to America. The only difference was we killed off the people already here
and the asian immigrants we took in was also very controlled
i mean we arent a nation of immigrants
I think that really had less to do with government control of immigration and the fact all people had to travel were big fuckin boats and not many people could afford to all at once
we're a nation of americans. founded in anglo-saxxan protestant ideals.
you could say we were immigrants in say... the 1600s.. sure fine. whatever.
but today we are not a nation of immigrants
If you look at it in terms of the span of history. White people migrated to the Americas 200-300 years ago. There were none here before then. As far as history is concerned we're far more immigrants than mexicans are
TFW a republican president gets impeached because a democrat politician did shady things.
...wait a sec
@Troye nope
i strongly disagree with that
well apparently Bush fucking up the economy was Obama's fault, so, really that's nothing new
as our ancestors fought and died for this land
to claim it
Yes, we killed off tge native population
you cant just wipe that away and say oh well the mexicans were here first yada yada. we are more immigrants then they are. lol no. we won the wars, we took texas. and we're keeping it
yeah, by that logic literally none of the current existing borders in europe are legitimate
Are they tho?
and we didnt kill them off or genocide them, it was a battle. 30% of settlers died and 50% of the natives died
Look I'm not a fan of crying over what happened in the past and I completely realize this has little bearing on current policy. I simply believe its worth realizing that we're all human and all basically the same people. At birth at least
it was a big conflict
thats fine troye
but you will have to make the decision on whether you like america the way it is
or if you're fine with it changing due to mass immigration
that's a shitty false dichotomy
its really not
I'm pissed off enough with the change we're getting just from Cali transplants, let alone immigration
these people vote overwhelmingly in favor of hate speech laws, and gun control and etc.
the people who are coming in
so its either you stop them coming in or you are fine with those changes. among other things that will change
yes, it really is, America's not really great how it is, I'd just like to see it change by pulling our mismanaged foreign policy back and focusing on domestic matters
Was mostly just enjoying an argument of philosophy. I support immigration reform and oppose illegal immigration. And I'm in favor of encouraging immigrants to assimilate. I just also am in favor of human rights in general for all people
domestic matters can include securing the border
and wow, look at all this revenue and resources we have available for the border, now that we're not burning it overseas
then ultimately we agree, but troye see i go a bit further. im against illegal immigration obviously. duh. but im also against legal immigration unless its under very strict circumstances
we should move to a net 0 immigration policy. since 200,000 people leave the us every year we can accept around 200,000 in
@Jokerfaic Also, yes we definitely need foreign policy reform and to fix the holes forming in our own country
since 1965 we have had over 60 million people immigrate here
