So is Serbia, Croatia, Romania, Slovakia and Poland
Belgium was given independence to avoid 3-way war between Nederlands, Germany and France
Switzerland was created by Napoleon on a whim
Luxembourg was created because a wealthy baron was fed up with Franco-German shenanigans and paid for independence
