How much of a role does religion play in society? Would it be better for society to have an established religion to push the society in one direction or another? What religion would you put in power if you could?

The role of the church is to provide an example of objective morals within a society. Even as we speak, the tenants of Christian values are evident in the way the majority of American conduct. If I had to pick a church that the state would promote, it would be a toss up between the LDS faith (due to its heavy emphasis on family values and that the family is eternal) or the Cosmothesists (since they think in terms of eternity rather than the instant gratification of the individual).
