It was theological mostly
```Irenaeus of Lyons believed in the second century that Peter and Paul had been the founders of the Church in Rome and had appointed Linus as succeeding bishop```
Then we had the papacy preaching papal supremacy of course
Read the thing I quoted on the Council of Nicea as well
But is it not cited that the first stage of the Schism began because of the Catholic Church closing down Churches of the Byzantine Rite in what is composed of contemporary Italy, which resulted in the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople to excommunicate them in return.
Was I pinged?
@Perception Religion daily question
What is your view on what *is* hell?
Oh so its because of the role i have
Hell, for sure, isn’t the boiling cauldron that’s commonly depicted in most media.
```On July 16, 1054, Patriarch of Constantinople Michael Cerularius was excommunicated from the Christian church based in Rome, Italy. This excommunication severed the largest faction of Christianity, called Chalcedonian Christianity. The split is known as the Great Schism```
It’s something we can’t discern.
Conflicts happened way earlier
It's described that there will be great weeping and gnashing of teeth, so it'll be horrible. Most important is that it is eternal separation from God until the Lake of Fire when Jesus comes again-where it will again be separation from God.
Honestly, I don't see how some Orthodox Bishops see hell as temporary
everything I can find makes it pretty clear that Hell is eternal
That’s their individual perspectives, though I’m sure they’d likely explain why in full.
But remember that the core tenet is that God does not send you to Hell, you send yourself to it.
You ultimately went because you turned down the gift of Heaven.
CS Lewis wrote a book about it in an anecdotal fashion.
One can only turn down the gift of Grace that is freely given
That’s correct, I should’ve worded it more efficiently.
There.
The lake of fire is permanent
Revelation 20:14 KJV
So even in that perspective you remain in the lake of fire permanently?
The lake of fire is permanent
Now, the Bible mentions a second death, I do not know of the soul of the damned is literally annihilated and dosent exist or if it's in eternal fire
Or if youou even retain consicousness in the lake of fire
Oh I see
Thank you
I guess I was having a mini stroke there
The lake of fire doesn't destroy hell
I dont think he implied tha5
14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. Rev 20:14-15
The second death and names not written in the book of life being thrown into the lale of fire is the important part to understanding it.
