This is why.

2019-09-14 21:21:24 UTC

Look at the big picture. Missouri has a different culture, climate and values than a population heavy state like California or New York.

2019-09-14 21:22:01 UTC

It keeps a few large metropolises who have no idea what they are doing from telling how the country needs to act.

2019-09-14 21:22:50 UTC

Why does everyone care about equal representation so much

2019-09-14 21:22:56 UTC

I’m looking at the big picture. I’m just looking at it differently than you do. Each person is an individual and they deserve individual consideration as to who they believe should be their leader instead of being grouped together by arbitrary lines drawn on a map.

2019-09-14 21:23:38 UTC

How about only I can vote

2019-09-14 21:23:51 UTC

I saw this most obviously in Washington state. Where the west is super liberal and full of large cities and crime and everything horrible. But in the east they are average Hicks. Yet because the west inflicts so many rules and laws such as a porch permit, just the permit, that costs 7000 dollars, it hinders development and freedoms because the west is trying to run the east as if they were a city.

2019-09-14 21:24:03 UTC

Now imagine that only on a country scale

2019-09-14 21:24:04 UTC

@Eoppa That makes about as much sense as the electoral college does in the modern world.

2019-09-14 21:24:26 UTC

Democracy as a whole doesn't make sense

2019-09-14 21:24:43 UTC

Bruh let's just expand the means of politics to the whole place

2019-09-14 21:24:51 UTC

You have New York, California and bunch of population heavy cities demanding how the people who live in the country and on ranches how to live.

2019-09-14 21:25:14 UTC

At the end it seems to be very fair.

2019-09-14 21:25:40 UTC

no it doesnt

2019-09-14 21:25:43 UTC

Democratic liberals win sometimes. Conservatives win sometimes. Unless you’d rather the Democrats have a monopoly on the country.

2019-09-14 21:25:44 UTC

the union should be dissolved

2019-09-14 21:25:52 UTC

Not dissolved.

2019-09-14 21:25:57 UTC

But seriously reformed

2019-09-14 21:25:57 UTC

dissolved

2019-09-14 21:26:03 UTC

In the end individuals don't win elections

2019-09-14 21:26:05 UTC

Groups do

2019-09-14 21:26:18 UTC

Unless you’re talking about making each state a country

2019-09-14 21:26:25 UTC

In which case I could almost agree

2019-09-14 21:26:29 UTC

If you don't give farmers equal representation to the city men, then the election is not equal

2019-09-14 21:26:46 UTC

(For example)

2019-09-14 21:26:50 UTC

That’s what the electoral college does though

2019-09-14 21:26:55 UTC

Ik

2019-09-14 21:26:58 UTC

I support it

2019-09-14 21:27:00 UTC

I literally want each state to be their own country

2019-09-14 21:27:01 UTC

Oh

2019-09-14 21:27:15 UTC

Anyways I'm off break

2019-09-14 21:27:18 UTC

@Wubbzo y’know. I actually kinda like that idea.

2019-09-14 21:27:30 UTC

@Attika or regional unions at the very least

2019-09-14 21:27:56 UTC

such as the west coast countries together, the midwest together, etc

2019-09-14 21:28:01 UTC

@Attika So your logic is that if the hicks tell the city folk what to do it will fix the problem? With the system we currently have a presidential election can be won on literally 23% of the popular vote. Don’t try to tell me that isn’t ridiculous. I’m not even asking you to say that a flat democracy is the right answer, but the system we have currently is fundamentally flawed.

2019-09-14 21:28:04 UTC

Yeah. Or bring it back to where it used to be, at the founding when each state was a country and simply agreed to work together on various things

2019-09-14 21:29:21 UTC

@DrRisen no. But giving the low population heartland a chance in an election is important. Actually no, I don’t think that’s ridiculous. I wouldn’t mind it at all, what matters is the states.

2019-09-14 21:29:36 UTC

Would the USA function well like that today?

2019-09-14 21:30:25 UTC

Electoral college allows low population states to still represent their interests against a high population state.

2019-09-14 21:31:14 UTC

I support a regional union for all the US states for example kind of like the EU but different

2019-09-14 21:31:28 UTC

As far as I’m concerned the president is supposed to be a representative of the federal US, so votes should be counted on the basis of being a member of the US, not on a basis of your state. The representation of states is covered by Congress. @Attika
