Look where they are now

2019-12-06 22:09:39 UTC

The people were tired of them so they disposed of them

2019-12-06 22:09:39 UTC

It worked.

2019-12-06 22:09:47 UTC

For 2000 yearsd

2019-12-06 22:09:55 UTC

Longer than most systems

2019-12-06 22:09:58 UTC

Not forever tho, when the Qing got overthrown they were stuck in the past

2019-12-06 22:10:04 UTC

Humiliated by other powers

2019-12-06 22:10:18 UTC

Simply because they didnt industrialize

2019-12-06 22:10:30 UTC

Yea because they saw it as a threat to their power

2019-12-06 22:10:38 UTC

And?

2019-12-06 22:10:39 UTC

And it was as seen with the Kuomintang

2019-12-06 22:10:47 UTC

What's your point here

2019-12-06 22:10:55 UTC

The values they held were fundamentally opposed to industrialization

2019-12-06 22:11:06 UTC

Hence they engineered their own downfall

2019-12-06 22:11:35 UTC

What values did they hold that were fundamentally opposed to industrialization?

2019-12-06 22:12:23 UTC

Social Traditionalism is not in conflict with industrialization.

2019-12-06 22:13:06 UTC

It is tho, you can’t have space travel whilst believing the earth is flat

2019-12-06 22:14:02 UTC

Believing the earth is flat has nothing to do with social traditionalism, and you are over exasperating and bringing in irrelevant points with the earth is flat thing.

2019-12-06 22:15:39 UTC

I’m bringing up an example, fundamental Christian beliefs of the Middle Ages are an example of that.
As with the Qing the industrialization also brought in values like democracy and parliamentarianism which they opposed

2019-12-06 22:16:06 UTC

Believing the earth was flat was *not* a fundamental Christian belief.

2019-12-06 22:16:25 UTC

It was? They believed that for millennia

2019-12-06 22:16:33 UTC

You take the meaning of fundamental and apply it to something that isnt fundamental, fundmental is something that must be there

2019-12-06 22:16:39 UTC

Like belief Christ is the son of God

2019-12-06 22:16:42 UTC

That is fundmanetal

2019-12-06 22:16:49 UTC

Because changing that would change everything

2019-12-06 22:17:24 UTC

It was? The earth not being flat changed everything because it proves the heliocentric worldview and that the earth is not the center of the universe

2019-12-06 22:17:37 UTC

That is not fundamental to Christian belief

2019-12-06 22:18:04 UTC

It was a scientific dispute, not a theological dispute

2019-12-06 22:18:36 UTC

Galileo was an adamant Christian, if it was fundamental he would've left the faith.

2019-12-06 22:18:38 UTC

He didnt.

2019-12-06 22:18:38 UTC

1 Chronicles 16:30: “He has fixed the earth firm, immovable.”
Psalm 93:1: “Thou hast fixed the earth immovable and firm ...”
Psalm 96:10: “He has fixed the earth firm, immovable ...”
Psalm 104:5: “Thou didst fix the earth on its foundation so that it never can be shaken.”
Isaiah 45:18: “...who made the earth and fashioned it, and himself fixed it fast..

The first one, has a very differnt meaning when in RSV

2019-12-06 22:19:18 UTC

Translation has a big part of how you interpret it.

2019-12-06 22:19:39 UTC

The 2nd one has nothing to do with flat eath

2019-12-06 22:19:45 UTC

Neither does the 3rd one

2019-12-06 22:19:55 UTC

Neither does the 4th

2019-12-06 22:20:03 UTC

It calls the earth immovable
