But right now you are arguing that public consensus trumps the burden of proof or at least shifts it. And I disagree very stolidly on that. Because public consensus is only so right on any issue until refits and reorients closer towards the truth.

That doesn't mean everything that is in the public consensus should be undermined for no reason. But on the other hand, some things have a low truth value because they are unsupported by any evidence and only hinge on testimonials that in no small way are probably affected by political biases.

And when you get to anything that has a low truth value with the public consensus behind it, you place the burden of proof squarely on that camp. If all they can do is call you a denier, go for the man or commit violence, then they admit defeat.
