Characters are unimaginative thanks to shit like Cars, where that was the turning point in laziness of character design. After Cars, everyone started cutting costs because they figured characters don't need to be well-designed, it's better for them to be more simple, easier to make toys.

I remember as a kid I had a Woody doll, good recreation from the movie. Stitched, plastic boots, removable hat, plastic face and hands, stuffed fabric everything else. Kids can't get those toys anymore, it's cheaper just to make full plastic shit, or fully stuffed cube-based stuff. That shit hurts to think about, man.
