PROTIP: Article 50 automatically fires once the trigger is pulled UNLESS there is unanimous consent between the departing nation's leadership AND the EU itself to extend the deadline for an agreement. It does not matter if the departing nation passes an internal law to NOT leave absent an agreement, because the laws of member states do not override Article 50. Which is why Article 50 had to be invoked in the first place.

2019-09-30 01:53:28 UTC

Technically and theoretically, deadline extensions could be created in a perpetual chain - but the minute there is not unanimous agreement (such as per a change in government within the departing country), that's it.

The Sauds are taking quite a beating.

2019-09-30 02:08:17 UTC

Haven't seen such gross ineptitude in dealing with sophisticated military equipment and nepotism in the ranks since the South Vietnamese military in the Vietnam War.

2019-09-30 02:33:04 UTC

The Saudis will be quick to beg for American aid if Houthi activity escalates

2019-09-30 02:37:41 UTC

VIETNAM 2:ELECTRIC BOOGALOO

2019-09-30 02:39:13 UTC

Saudi Arabia is desperately trying to diversify its economy because of the unsustainability of oil, and the fact that the Middle East's shipping lanes are just the fucking wild west

2019-09-30 02:39:41 UTC

Seems like a good time to try Peace in the Middle East 2: *Economic Imperialism*

2019-09-30 02:39:47 UTC

A Gulf Of Tonkin is just begging to happen to escalate this.

2019-09-30 02:39:58 UTC

@UnfilteredGarbage Do you think American aid would end in another "Vietnam"?

2019-09-30 02:40:22 UTC

@ashzeppelin unlikely, more like just another War on Terror

2019-09-30 02:41:07 UTC

Considering the previous War On Terror still hasn't ended yet

2019-09-30 02:41:33 UTC

In the grim darkness of the sand dunes, there is only War

2019-09-30 02:41:46 UTC

Plus unlike the Taliban and more like the Viet Cong, the Houthis have much more popular support of the Yemeni citizens.

2019-09-30 02:43:20 UTC

We won't make the same mistake we did in Vietnam again. Naval blockade + infinite bombing campaign = victory

2019-09-30 02:43:42 UTC

"Infinite Bombing Campaign"

2019-09-30 02:43:54 UTC

Isn't that what happened in Operation Rolling Thunder and Linebacker?

2019-09-30 02:44:23 UTC

VC simply retreated to the ingenious Ho Chi Minh trail during bombing raids.

2019-09-30 02:45:02 UTC

Although I see a "Tet Offensive" ending this war, it essentially means the Iranians would have to directly intervene.

2019-09-30 02:45:09 UTC

We didn't have drones in Vietnam

2019-09-30 02:45:37 UTC

Plus there's really no landscape features to hide behind in the ME

2019-09-30 02:45:55 UTC

What I should be saying is, it'll be another Gulf War but with drones

2019-09-30 02:46:01 UTC

Except the mountainous regions, I guess.

2019-09-30 02:46:23 UTC

We have MOABs to drop on the mountains

2019-09-30 02:46:27 UTC

But you're maybe right, Digging tunnels out there isn't so easy.

2019-09-30 02:46:46 UTC

But again, the benefit to dealing with the Saudis is that they're vulnerable to economic imperialism

2019-09-30 02:47:13 UTC

They need economic diversification and foreign aid to stay afloat, meaning we can heavily influence their social policies

2019-09-30 02:49:06 UTC

Just hope people don't lose their minds over this and there's no coup in the Saudi military

2019-09-30 02:49:48 UTC

In 1963 there was a god damn coup in Saigon because of our and the CIA's "influence"

2019-09-30 02:50:08 UTC

The saudi military practically doesn't exist. They're more a Royal Guard than anything. America supplies Saudi Arabia with all of its weapons, but would also have to either be the ones to field them or completely manage their military for them.

2019-09-30 02:51:35 UTC

That doesn't look good. Absolutely no self-sufficiency if pushed to the limit.

2019-09-30 02:52:09 UTC

That's the crisis Saudi Arabia is facing, and why they're very vulnerable to suggestion now that OPEC is collapsing

2019-09-30 02:52:33 UTC

America needs to capitalize on that before Russia or, god forbid, China undercuts us
