A nice ideal. Needs an actual plan, though. Not easy with the states, considering the massive landmass, relatively poor infrastructure, and cultural divide.
It's an ebb and flow thing. We're almost directly repeating history, but there's really only still a possibility. Can't know the future. Doesn't hurt to prepare for it.
Can't just prepare infrastructure for that, though. Society here has become fat and complacent. Separating from the global economy would mean sacrificing luxury. That's going to turn people off.
I'd rather have a fortified community in the middle of nowhere, capable of going five years without access to the outside world, which also maintains deep connections to interest groups and prepper groups throughout the surrounding region.
The most that'll come of political dispute will be random acts of violence, perpetrated by insurgents, who'll be met by the end of a barrel, just as they always have and always will be.
Basically, the goal is to have the capacity to arm friendly forces and wipe out hostile forces as efficiently as possible, with the understanding that the US military will no longer be a serious threat because it's too busy fighting a civil war.
