Human nature, particularly when it comes to parenting, is about creating more copies of yourself. Imperfect, not quite the same, but still extremely similar. There's a reason for that: Most humans, at most points in human history, have been a great fit for their environment. They didn't need to change. They just needed to keep doing more of the same.

When the requirements of human success and fulfillment change, traditional parenting is not enough, because having kids become their parents is pretty much guaranteeing that they're not gonna fare well.

If your family has been on welfare for three generations, and everyone in your family has been to prison or did poorly in school, then your culture is clearly not working for you. The best you can hope for at that point, is to give some parenting classes that maybe, just maybe, turn welfare queens into Ben Carson type figures.
