There's a reason for that: Most humans, at most points in human history, have been a great fit for their environment. They didn't need to change. They just needed to keep doing more of the same.

When the requirements of human success and fulfillment change, traditional parenting is not enough, because having kids become their parents is pretty much guaranteeing that they're not gonna fare well.
