No genocide here folks. Shut the fuck up and go back to your cubicle like the battery hen we designed you to be.

@D Stein It actually looks like AMD has already patched their CPUs

2019-08-08 13:00:16 UTC

Though, how many people have updated their firmware is questionable

2019-08-08 13:11:43 UTC

Thankfully, Intel will be able to offer a mitigation to this vulnerability via Windows update, and AMD has not issued a new patch for this issue as it never depended the particular type of speculative execution used in the attack.

Be sure to keep up with your Windows updates folks.

2019-08-08 13:13:08 UTC

"AMD later clarified that it believes there is "near zero risk" to its processors."

2019-08-08 13:13:16 UTC

Yet they did release a firmware patch.

2019-08-08 13:14:09 UTC

Where was this firmware patch found?

2019-08-08 13:15:19 UTC

I'll probably have to do that Windows update

2019-08-08 13:15:51 UTC

Oh

2019-08-08 13:15:54 UTC

It was a silent update

2019-08-08 13:15:57 UTC

It's already done then

2019-08-08 13:16:18 UTC

I wonder how much it's effected my CPU performance :/

2019-08-08 13:17:44 UTC

Ah. This was the Spectre/Meltdown fiasco from early 2018. AMD was affected by Spectre, but patched over Windows update long ago. The article I was referring to above was the new SWAPGS vulnerability.

2019-08-08 13:18:20 UTC

Performance differences on AMD were negligible. Sub 1% for most.

2019-08-08 13:18:28 UTC

So you should be OK.

2019-08-08 13:18:31 UTC

Using the same concepts of speculative-code execution?

2019-08-08 13:18:41 UTC

I didn't know there was a NEW one

2019-08-08 13:18:43 UTC

A new species of it, yes.

2019-08-08 13:18:48 UTC

Ah

2019-08-08 13:19:56 UTC

I glanced over it and saw "Spectre and Meltdown" and "speculative-execution"

2019-08-08 13:20:03 UTC

And thought it was just referring to 2018

2019-08-08 13:20:08 UTC

My bad

2019-08-08 13:20:33 UTC

NP

2019-08-08 13:21:26 UTC

"while the vulnerability technically exists when affected chips run on other operating systems, it was "unfeasible" to exploit chips running Linux, Unix, FreeBSD, or macOS."

2019-08-08 13:21:33 UTC

I really should switch over to Arch

2019-08-08 13:21:36 UTC

But muh games

2019-08-08 13:21:38 UTC

:/
