Thankfully, Intel will be able to offer a mitigation to this vulnerability via Windows update, and AMD has not issued a new patch for this issue as it never depended the particular type of speculative execution used in the attack.
Be sure to keep up with your Windows updates folks.
Where was this firmware patch found?
Ah. This was the Spectre/Meltdown fiasco from early 2018. AMD was affected by Spectre, but patched over Windows update long ago. The article I was referring to above was the new SWAPGS vulnerability.
Performance differences on AMD were negligible. Sub 1% for most.
So you should be OK.
A new species of it, yes.

@Space Force You're in a rough spot for upgrading because to get a new processor you will also have to get a new mobo and ram, but purchasing a GPU significantly better than the 1060 would also cost a bit much and still be hindered by the old CPU. I'd say go for the new mobo plus ram plus CPU. It will still leave a good upgrade path in the future for the GPU.
Should cost around $350-400
Virgin alt+prtscn vs Chad snipping tool.
@Goodwood of Dankโข Over twice as fast as a 1060. Just a couple percent shy of the 2070 super. $100 less.
