I'm not sure how my conception of reality is less terrifying than yours. I would very much enjoy if I could once again believe it were possible for anyone to be anything. Real Zootopian.
I approach reality holistically. I strive to not reject uncomfortable truths.
Instead, I try to work within the constraints of what reality provides to achieve the results I want. Instead of insisting the world is already how I want it to be.

Races are generally recognized using multifactoral analysis. The Human species has sufficient total population FST to fit within the category of other species which have subspecies.
It's really not that hard to grasp.
The subcategories of humans don't need to be absolutely constrained into discrete categories to justify this. If they were, they might as well be entirely different species. They are not, obviously.
