They're not the preachy type in their shows. Their Twitters are another story..

I think the funniest political reference is when in universe they replaced the sheriff with a new sheriff who immediately starts a xenophobic campaign against the citizens of a now economically bunk rival town who want to move in

Granted said other citizens are mostly religious despots worshipping some kind of corporate God, and did try to take over night Vale, but the sheriff is also a clear parody of Trump's wall stuff
