that exception is the only thing that makes the internet businesss model work

2019-09-01 00:49:27 UTC

they clearly think they are liable for their content because they edit it and curate it

2019-09-01 00:49:33 UTC

Then just make your account to push people to your website where it can be spoken about.

2019-09-01 00:49:34 UTC

Easy.

2019-09-01 00:49:41 UTC

but they dont want to be legally bound by that cuz they want their cake and to eat it too

2019-09-01 00:49:45 UTC

And now look at that, you're expanding your website.

2019-09-01 00:49:50 UTC

Remove their exemption, see them curate everything so excessively trying not be taken to court for what people write and say, then see how they go into a death spiral.

2019-09-01 00:49:54 UTC

otherwise evrery single person you host would have to be carefully vetted

2019-09-01 00:49:59 UTC

@Weez but there aren't better places to go as there aren't as many people, and as many different political people on these alternative platforms

2019-09-01 00:50:04 UTC

Getting removed isn't the end of the world.

2019-09-01 00:50:07 UTC

Make another account.

2019-09-01 00:50:08 UTC

Zakhan gets it

2019-09-01 00:50:11 UTC

Who gives a shit?

2019-09-01 00:50:20 UTC

Push people to your platform.

2019-09-01 00:50:23 UTC

they won't GIVE free services anymore

2019-09-01 00:50:24 UTC

@ManAnimal the exemption will still be available to sites that dont curate

2019-09-01 00:50:30 UTC

If people like it, then they'll stay and use it.

2019-09-01 00:50:30 UTC

negative

2019-09-01 00:50:32 UTC

Then it'll grow.

2019-09-01 00:50:40 UTC

the law doesn't work that way

2019-09-01 00:50:41 UTC

@Weez it's never that simple though

2019-09-01 00:50:44 UTC

But it is.

2019-09-01 00:50:52 UTC

Remove the exemption from Facebook and other non-free platforms breaching the terms of that exemption. Then see how the sites that follow the terms get more traffic, when the big sites start over-curating.

2019-09-01 00:51:02 UTC

its not about completely removing it. its about examining whether or not it should apply to facebook, google and twitter @ManAnimal

2019-09-01 00:51:17 UTC

That's the SIMPLEST form of advertisement..

2019-09-01 00:51:19 UTC

@Weez Many moderates and other poltically less involved people see no need to move over to other social media platforms

2019-09-01 00:51:26 UTC

a rule either applies to everyone pre-emptively or no one; the rules don't change based on a single criteria

2019-09-01 00:51:35 UTC

to reach those people, you need to use mainstream platforms

2019-09-01 00:51:41 UTC

And you still can be.

2019-09-01 00:51:49 UTC

Gab will have more competitive power, when people are allowed to post anything on it and they don't get sued. If they truly are a free platform.

2019-09-01 00:51:49 UTC

People do move around..

2019-09-01 00:51:50 UTC

And making alternative platforms mainstream requires a lot of work that many people can't do

2019-09-01 00:51:54 UTC

People do look at other websites.

2019-09-01 00:52:03 UTC

Yet it's done already. @stathelle

2019-09-01 00:52:07 UTC

If you don't have a free platform, you won't get that nice exemption that covers your ass.

2019-09-01 00:52:12 UTC

@Weez like what?

2019-09-01 00:52:15 UTC

Gab.

2019-09-01 00:52:17 UTC

4Chan.

2019-09-01 00:52:19 UTC

Voat.

2019-09-01 00:52:23 UTC

Gab isn't nearly mainstream
