Well, I think 1st A overrides any local law to prohibit an atheist for running for an office.

2019-11-05 03:09:01 UTC

And SCOTUS is on my side.

2019-11-05 03:09:24 UTC

Because there are such laws, and they've consistently ruled unconstitutional.

2019-11-05 03:09:50 UTC

USA has freedom from religion (in addition to freedom of religion).

2019-11-05 03:10:09 UTC

I know it's a conservative talking point that USA has only freedom of, but not from, religion.

2019-11-05 03:10:41 UTC

Which is why they passed local laws prohibiting atheists from attempting to run for any office.

2019-11-05 03:10:46 UTC

No that is still freedom of religion. If your religion is 'atheist' federal supremacy steps in.

2019-11-05 03:10:57 UTC

Atheist is not a religion.

2019-11-05 03:11:09 UTC

Atheist is irreligion.

2019-11-05 03:11:19 UTC

Irreligion is non-religion.

2019-11-05 03:12:45 UTC

If you think atheism is a religion, what are their core tenets?

2019-11-05 03:12:53 UTC

What are their holy books?

2019-11-05 03:13:18 UTC

Horseshit. The old atheist saying is "Not bowling is not a sport" Well if you have not-bowler clubs that get together and talk about how great it is to not bowl you are a sport of sorts,

2019-11-05 03:14:09 UTC

Nope. Not bowling is still not a sport.

2019-11-05 03:14:40 UTC

IF a system of ideas not containing a deity is not a religion then Buddhism is not a religion and Scientology is not a religion.

2019-11-05 03:15:04 UTC

System of ideas? Atheists don't have one.

2019-11-05 03:18:33 UTC

For example those who follow material nihilism are distinct from Buddhists (most of who are still technically atheists, along with Satanists and some of the occultists).

2019-11-05 03:19:39 UTC

Which warrants a correction to my previous statement: "Atheist is irreligion" because Buddhism can be called a religion... or a philosophy. Depends on the definition of "religion".

2019-11-05 03:20:29 UTC

Well scientology has no gods either just aliens.....

2019-11-05 03:20:47 UTC

They'd be about as religion as Buddhism, then.

2019-11-05 03:20:47 UTC

Kind of doesn't matter, the IRS has classified some secular organizations as churches and granted them exemptions

2019-11-05 03:21:15 UTC

But where as Buddhism can be a religion, atheism as whole is not.

2019-11-05 03:21:29 UTC

And neither is "theism".

2019-11-05 03:22:02 UTC

"Theism" is not one, singular religion. It's a category that contains all religions that believe in a god or gods.

2019-11-05 03:22:30 UTC

>System of ideas? Atheists don't have one.
Not true at all

2019-11-05 03:22:39 UTC

"Atheism" is not religion. It's a category that contains religions that don't include god or gods, as well as irreligiousness.

2019-11-05 03:22:56 UTC

@ETBrooD What is the system of belief that **ALL** atheists hold true?

2019-11-05 03:23:13 UTC

That wasn't your claim

2019-11-05 03:23:33 UTC

You said atheists don't have *a* system of ideas, which I read as they don't have any system of ideas

2019-11-05 03:23:54 UTC

Well, if all atheists don't have **one** system of belief, then atheist don't have **one**, by definition.

2019-11-05 03:24:10 UTC

You mean atheists don't have a monolithic idea?

2019-11-05 03:24:13 UTC

I said atheists don't have one.

2019-11-05 03:24:28 UTC

Atheism is a collection of many beliefs, so there's more than one.

2019-11-05 03:24:37 UTC

@ETBrooD **DUH!!**

2019-11-05 03:24:47 UTC

Atheism includes materialism and Buddhism.

2019-11-05 03:24:53 UTC

Are they the fucking same thing?

2019-11-05 03:24:55 UTC

But not a single religion has a monolithic system of ideas either

2019-11-05 03:24:56 UTC

Fucking retard.

2019-11-05 03:24:58 UTC

What is the system of belief that all Christians hold true? Spoiler; there isn't one. People hold belief systems. At the time of the Founding those were all religions so they wrote it in those terms.

2019-11-05 03:25:16 UTC

@Jym Jesus?

2019-11-05 03:25:19 UTC

Christianity has a variety of systems of ideas
