idealy you wouldn't do it top down
that doesnt make sense
but again that creates problems
you can't top-down direct democracy
there is no top lol
I was thinking of a far more decentralized form then i assume you're thinking of
but again I dont even think it would fully work
just a good subject to think about imo
Tyranny of the Masses
?
tyranny of the majority
direct democracy allows the 51% to vote to piss in the 49%'s soup
and the gold will flow
well, that and if the voting was done via an automated process that everyone could audit, you'd be able to trust a slim majority. otherwise, it's within the margin of error
51/49 is inconclusive
a +/-3% margin of error is all one can realistically hope to acheive
who tf is becky and derek? lmao
Direct democracy can be bad as well though 🤔
In the case of BRexit I would agree with it
However in the case of some Goebbels type coming along and managing to propagandarise people it could be a net negative
agreed, in fact no one should be allowed to vote that cannot clearly describe the position of BOTH canadates
or the trade-offs involved in any one issue
Precisely my problem with people in todays democracies tbh
"I want leave" "do you know the position of remain" Well they want to remain" "yea ok, but why" "..." switch it to the opposite and its the same tbh
yeah, what does leaving entail? if BOTH sides were clear on this the vote would be more balanced
I genuinely don't care what peoples positions are IRL provided they can defend them, like if someone can make a good flat earth argument i'd be like "ok fair one" where as someone who says "the world is round coz we all know that" is more likely to get ridicule from me
lmao dissenter removed the built in proxy settings without notification
well, 'caring' or even 'agreeing' with one's position is irrelevant. Only that you UNDERSTAND the position the other is taking
Leaving for me was always about a no deal leave tbh. then we can negotiate from that position any deals we want as an independent nation (do we want tariff or tariff free deals with the EU, etc)
Direct democracies would only work if everyone was educated, thought critically and was intelligent enough to apply those qualities
Anything less isn't a real BRexit and still ties us in, not to mention leaving the EU is just the first part, there are still 3 other European institutions (such as the ECHR) that we also have to leave
Social media shit storms and job lynch mobs show how well that works in application
Not very
speaking as an american though, i think it was more than alittle naive to think Brexit would be executed when it required more than a single election cycle to implement
Well tbh that is because remain and the globalists are totally against it
You have a parliament that is at least 75% remain as well
negotiates are like playing poker and you can't play the game if the moment the cards are dealt, everyone knows your hand
Brexit didn't happen because Parliament blocked it at every turn
Nobody significant wants BRexit to happen at the top
Basically
Parliament needs dissolving, completely
