From my understanding if parliament voted on it then there would be nothing the supreme court could do cos parliament is sovereign and all that
The Supreme Court could just rule that Parliamentary Sovereignty is unlawful
That would be quite funny
The Supreme Court has pretty much ruled that it almost has infinite power now
It could theoretically rule that anything is unlawful
Yeah the constitution is in a bit of a mess right now
Why don't they just rule that the Constitution is Unlawful?
That would be one big brained play
Just rule that democracy in general is unlawful and then begin a new age of dictatorship
I mean the UK isnt really a democracy, it's a parliamentary oligarchy
There isn't really a limit on parliament's power unless the queen decides to do something
i thought it was a constitutional monarchy, which is a form of democracy
but whatever, that wasn't even the point i was making
ehh it's all a mess
it is
and yeah I bet the supreme court would love to do it if they thought they could get away with it
I feel like the very fabric of your political structure is being tested and I've only just become aware of it
our*
Yeah i never realised how messed up it all is
I think it relied on a gentlemen's agreement that kept it all going smoothly but thats totally broken down now
because everythings become so polarised and hateful between Brexit and Remain
We need a lot of changes
Written Constitution
End of FPTP
End of FTPA
End of the Supreme Court
Agree on all 3
Aren't the recent Labour government responsible for two of those?
Cameron Passed the FTPA
Oh right, well fuck him too then
Blair made the Supreme Court i think
It's only really been the Lib-Dems and other more minor parties that oppose FPTP and support a written Constitution
I'm not really sure what UKIP's stance is on the constitution
The good thing about the mess now is that at least it's making conversations like this more mainstream
true
If anything comes of Brexit it's that people seem more interested and engaged in politics in general
The lib dems wanted the FTPA so the conservatives couldn't just call an election and dissolve the coalition when the polls started showing something.
of course, now we got a government that looks unlikely to be even be able to get a queens speech though parliament
Lib dems oppose FPTP?
Oh was it a typo
