profit

2019-10-06 20:11:51 UTC

From my understanding if parliament voted on it then there would be nothing the supreme court could do cos parliament is sovereign and all that

2019-10-06 20:13:06 UTC

The Supreme Court could just rule that Parliamentary Sovereignty is unlawful

2019-10-06 20:14:27 UTC

That would be quite funny

2019-10-06 20:18:45 UTC

The Supreme Court has pretty much ruled that it almost has infinite power now

2019-10-06 20:19:05 UTC

It could theoretically rule that anything is unlawful

2019-10-06 20:20:36 UTC

Yeah the constitution is in a bit of a mess right now

2019-10-06 20:21:19 UTC

Why don't they just rule that the Constitution is Unlawful?

2019-10-06 20:21:53 UTC

That would be one big brained play

2019-10-06 20:23:40 UTC

Just rule that democracy in general is unlawful and then begin a new age of dictatorship

2019-10-06 20:24:40 UTC

I mean the UK isnt really a democracy, it's a parliamentary oligarchy

2019-10-06 20:25:09 UTC

There isn't really a limit on parliament's power unless the queen decides to do something

2019-10-06 20:26:01 UTC

i thought it was a constitutional monarchy, which is a form of democracy

2019-10-06 20:26:27 UTC

but whatever, that wasn't even the point i was making

2019-10-06 20:26:41 UTC

ehh it's all a mess

2019-10-06 20:26:58 UTC

it is

2019-10-06 20:27:03 UTC

and yeah I bet the supreme court would love to do it if they thought they could get away with it

2019-10-06 20:27:18 UTC

I feel like the very fabric of your political structure is being tested and I've only just become aware of it

2019-10-06 20:27:23 UTC

our*

2019-10-06 20:28:00 UTC

Yeah i never realised how messed up it all is

2019-10-06 20:28:31 UTC

I think it relied on a gentlemen's agreement that kept it all going smoothly but thats totally broken down now

2019-10-06 20:28:54 UTC

because everythings become so polarised and hateful between Brexit and Remain

2019-10-06 20:44:54 UTC

We need a lot of changes

2019-10-06 20:45:01 UTC

Written Constitution

2019-10-06 20:45:06 UTC

End of FPTP

2019-10-06 20:45:15 UTC

End of FTPA

2019-10-06 20:45:21 UTC

End of the Supreme Court

2019-10-06 20:45:33 UTC

Agree on all 3

2019-10-06 20:45:52 UTC

Aren't the recent Labour government responsible for two of those?

2019-10-06 20:46:10 UTC

Cameron Passed the FTPA

2019-10-06 20:46:17 UTC

Oh right, well fuck him too then

2019-10-06 20:46:18 UTC

Blair made the Supreme Court i think

2019-10-06 20:46:56 UTC

It's only really been the Lib-Dems and other more minor parties that oppose FPTP and support a written Constitution

2019-10-06 20:47:14 UTC

I'm not really sure what UKIP's stance is on the constitution

2019-10-06 20:48:25 UTC

The good thing about the mess now is that at least it's making conversations like this more mainstream

2019-10-06 20:52:13 UTC

true

2019-10-06 20:52:28 UTC

If anything comes of Brexit it's that people seem more interested and engaged in politics in general

2019-10-06 20:55:20 UTC

The lib dems wanted the FTPA so the conservatives couldn't just call an election and dissolve the coalition when the polls started showing something.

2019-10-06 20:56:16 UTC

of course, now we got a government that looks unlikely to be even be able to get a queens speech though parliament

2019-10-06 21:47:32 UTC

Lib dems oppose FPTP?

2019-10-06 21:47:41 UTC

Oh was it a typo
