Like how Geore Washington was a fairly indecisive general, or how Benjamin Franklin was a glaring hypocrate. And I said "Why do we lie to kids about these people?"
and the professor said it was about instilling a positive view in the minds of kids
ok god damn it i actually need to sleep
but i dont wanna
Meh, Unresticted Politics. I have read all of this copypasta on /pol/. I was expecting something original.
and I was just sitting there like "It's a history course, the point is to give them an accurate depiction of past events so they may understand past decisions and use them as references for their own"
@Deleted User Be the change you want to see
i love how johannes is a nazi trying to coerce diversity in the uncensored politics server
Oh that shithole has plenty of diversity, just want to add more gas to the fire to keep it interesting TBH
> the professor said it was about instilling a positive view in the minds of kids
lol
why is it called history if you don't teach them the cold hard truth ?
isn't that propaganda on its own rights
history as a learned subject is pretty goddamn malleable, which is how you get this mythical american exceptionalism stuff being taught as historical
Well I mean
the professor in question is also a lawyer
or is the subject of history in school education itself a form of propaganda ?
I think I might have had a point I was trying to make with that statement, but I'm so tired that it was lost on me the second I posted that
hahaha
@Trestkie i think any teaching of past events is going to be colored by a certain ideological lens through which the events are viewed
thus, as a taught subject, history is necessarily propaganda, you have to teach kids critical thinking alongside so they can sort out the nonsense for themselves
>philosophy major lecturing people about why learning philosophy is important
>i am a living, breathing meme
Hey, you wasted your time with a worthless degree too?
im currently in the midst of pursuing the worthless degree! 😄
well im getting 2 degrees
double major in economics and philosophy
That's not too bad.
They complement each other.
well the problem with the econ degree is that i will literally commit suicide if i ever work in finance or business
they do totally complement each other
political economy and such
@not_matt >philosophy professor
No, academia is not place for a critical mind.
Academia needs a kick in the ass to get going again
*blushes* zielgy thinks i have a critical mind
Specifically the historical field
even academia is run on the profit motive now smh
>find new evidence for something
>throw it out because you wrote a thesis about it working the old way
Let me guess, early to mid 20th century Europe needs a look over.
