All I've read is that the Kuomintang were nationalists but I feel like there could be a lot of nuance that I'm missing.
Sun Yat Sen was essentially Chiang Kai Shek's mentor
and the RoC is (as we would say) built upon his "three people's principles"
Kuomintang was pretty socialist in comparison to other "nationalists", I did some research on them and was surprised by how left-leaning they were. Although at the end of the day they were still probably nothing more than a Chinese equivalent to Ba'athism, i.e. left-leaning fash.
What made them unique was their specifically Chinese values, some of which Mao also adopted.

I doubt many of the inventions would have been made if the inventor didn't think he'd get filthy rich by making it
There are a lot of open-source projects I participate in that are 100% probono.
That being said, I don't want to come across as intellectually dishonest, open-source participation is very important for a developer's 'exposure' and experience.
