Did I succeed in raising morale and bringing my fellow workers to my side? Definitely. I did a good thing and even though I went in half-cocked, I'm still proud of myself for taking that stand.
like many of the people there are happy to work there because they get payed way more than they get payed back home but the laws are in favor of the farm owners and not the farm workers because the workers are poor immigrants with little political power and the owners are comically wealthy
you have control, not your boss
If I were to try that again now, I would
definitely turn my former-managers world upside down.
if your boss is shit, leave or strike
but there are so many poor people willing to replace us, the turnover rate at my work is very high but still there is more people in need of work than jobs
the solution for unemployment is lower taxes and less regulations on businesses
more jobs = less unemployed = economic stimulation
I would love to have night differential and have others get hazard pay and have the same rights as non agricultural workers but if I lose my job I will lose my apartment I don't have any savings I live check to check really
I really kick myself for never going to proper college
Unfortunately that isn't true. In the age of Monopoly Capitalism, multinational corporations will always cut-corners any way they can in order to maximize profits. Outsourcing would still be a thing even with deregulation because these same companies are unwilling to pay people a living wage.
I am not sure how to improve my and my fellow workers situation without jeopardizing my income
then give companies incentives to not outsource
keep the jobs here
I am just lucky because I never had a kid or never got locked up
I think companies will always look at the bottom line no matter who they hurt
cheaper labor from poorer people or machines will always win out against the interests of the current workers imo
they will
I just wonder how society will cope as more and more work becomes automated leaving many without jobs
which is why actual necessary regulation is necessary
That's very true. It is always the more profitable option. We are long overdue for a UBI.
you must not regulate businesses in many respects because it stimulates growth and helps the owner, consumer and humble worker
you see economic competition is the driving force behind the economy
my main beef with UBI is that work imo is not just a way to get money to live and support yourself, people work to make goods and provide services to enrich the lives of other humans
this day in age however, government regulation has strangled small businesses
and thus, monopolies have formed everywhere
government is not the solution, government is the problem
every time government tried to "help" the consumer it's fucked them over
I would prefer a situation with 100% employment for the able bodied directed by the state to meet peoples needs make sure we all have are necessities then work for there
the government is directly responsible for the financial crisis of 2007

There is no moral or logical reason as to why a technologically-advanced country is unable to provide a Universal Basic Income for it's citizens. A UBI can be supported by people adhering to various ideological positions. Hell, Friedman and Hayek voiced support for it.
capitalism would work if left unimpeded and with slight regulation here and there
that is a moral standpoint, not an economic standpoint
communism would be a true utopia and the idea of it is great
however, in reality it is doomed to fail
I think capitalism leads to charles dickens type nightmare of the past where people were working insane hours and barely scraping by
the capitalist system, with all its flaws, has proven to be best for workers
i will admit there are many flaws
possibly even more than communism
