Have pics of them using some but not on my phone.
@Springbok uniform changes were around the same time they switched from R1 to R4 iirc
@Springbok and yes the red star was on a lot of vehicles but afaik that was not the norm with most vehicles simply being that olive green color
@Springbok @Colonel Clint @Ruanhead marksman rifle was an accurised R1 with some german scope on cant remember which. My dad was issued one
Lekker stuff @Kooijpolloi glad to have you around! Marksmen will have an R1 with that scope then. Gotta get up for work. Chat later this afternoon. Have plenty more questions 👌
100%
Marksmen did exist but scoped R1's were few in far between. I just spoke to my father who was a designated marksman and he said they trained on R1s and were issued R1s even when the R1s were being fased out. They were trained to use iron sights as shooting at range was impossible due to the lack of open space to clearly see a target. The scoped R1s are still used by marksmen today especially by the recces and the MRS
So most marksmen used ironsights in the SADF? I figured that the thick bush would be a problem as time after time I've seen short engagement distances due low visibility mentioned in the books I've read.
Rare pic of the milkor y2 mgl in use during the war. I wonder how common these were at the squad level...
Anyone know if that palm tree symbol is just "nose art" or an actual unit insignia?
This picture was listed as Rhodesian Selous scouts but I don't believe it is as I don't recall the Rhodesians ever using nutria uniforms
I like the foliage on the helmets. Would be nice to have such an option.
Mortar squad. One thing I dislike about Squad's mortars is that they feel very static. It is difficult to relocate as it costs you build points to assemble and you don't get them back when disassembling the mortar as far as I know. Would be far better if those build points used were restored to the logi when digging down the mortar.
Helicopter coming in to refuel at an HAA. I hope fuel becomes a thing in SQUAD at some point otherwise helicopters will be constantly flying over the operational area without needing to refuel.
Ooof probably nope
If so that'll make life far easier for me
Lol
But yes they wore standard browns for most the war tho
I know they wore browns too. Just wondering whether their camouflage uniforms were the same as the browns just in a camo pattern that way I don't have to sculpt two different uniforms. Just one that has two different textures, one nutria and one koevoet camo.
The camo pants were long pants but they sometimes cut them short
Since it gets fuck hot in a casspir
Read this book btw
Very good
I'll see if I can get it at some point
Any pic descriptions?
I'm going to include various insignia and symbols on SADF vehicles too where they were historically such as the 61 mech logo on 61 mech Ratels
It probably had one but finding it again is a mission
Hmmmm never seen it before
Might be SWATF
What base is that in the background in the first pic it looks very familiar
Oshakati?
I've seen that same base in several reference images. Maybe Ondangwa?
Oshakati also had a similar tower
With an AA gun on it
At the top of that tower is a double 23mm yes
