Hello. Can anyone recommend to me a book or series of books on the general history of Europe?
@HernanCortes That’d be a fat ass series my dude
Yeah I feared so
I just don’t know where to begin. I think I heard Vox Day mention a series on one of his live streams?
Sounded very good from what I remember but probably very long and expensive
@HernanCortes Is there a particular region or period of interest?
I suppose after the fall of Rome would do
And Western Europe more so than Eastern Europe
This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it's definitely worth a read.
Looks very interesting, thanks
This is incredibly short, but hilarious. A mix of history/philosophy.
Cataclysm 90 BC: The Forgotten War That Almost Destroyed Rome by Philip Matyszak
@HernanCortes If you're interested in reading primary sources I could gather a few works in the western canon for you to read. They are probably on PDF. Most contemporaneous accounts from medieval and early modern aren't too long either.
Yeah, that sounds like something I would be interested in
After thinking it over for a while, though, I’d like some help finding books on the history of individual European nations/peoples
I have a book on the history of Spain
I’d like to get some on the history of the British isles and France, for example
@HernanCortes
This is a great primer on the ideological and political forces that shaped modern France.

Excellent, thank you
I haven't read this yet, but came across and figured some might like to have it, supposedly the missing chapters of 200 Years Together:
@SamanthaM i am interested in a book on European history. I want something that is very broad based and general. A book that covers many major topics and events from a very high level. Basically i am looking for a book that is a mile wide and an inch deep so to speak. Do you have any in mind?
This was one of the first European history books I read. It’s pretty broad, and although there’s some slant, it’s not bad for the most part
I'm also kind of slow with reading history, so what I really liked about this book is that it's divided into six parts, each corresponding to an important era in the development of European identity
This is the first part of a set which is a sweeping overview of Western development. Also slightly biased.
This is the second book in a series that's older and more detailed. Not a long read if you commit.
