You can earn different roles for different things.

Most roles you only can get by having certain jobs etc. refer to <#801170119182254080> for more information on that. But there are some other roles you can earn like meme roles.

1) you can be a creator (meme, artist, etc.) -- which you would have an ashy navy blue
2) if your meme gets nominated in motw and won, you can earn Meme Lord title

I cannot find where in the rules that hosting an alternative Zeducation fan community on a free speech platform would be worthy of a ban. Is there some unspoken mechanic or loophole forbidding a member of this discord from hosting an alternative zeducation themed community?

This friend of your was kicked, not banned. I'm assuming this is MeMyselfAndI that you were referring to. The "unspoken mechanic" is known as respect for Zed and his brand. They were kicked because they decided to create an alternate server and began promoting it as a Zeducation server in other user's dms, which is against the server rules.
