LOl I have no idea. I've never dealt with Amazon.

2021-01-23 23:30:03 UTC

Guess I gotta come up with some good short stories

2021-01-23 23:30:41 UTC

But a lot of "publishing houses" charge you for the printing, then you have to find people to buy your copies.

2021-01-23 23:30:49 UTC

dam

2021-01-23 23:30:55 UTC

makes sense

2021-01-23 23:31:45 UTC

I wrote a roleplaying game system. I have the core rules, a playable module, and the first three expansion books for it, ready to publish, in printable format.

2021-01-23 23:31:52 UTC

damn

2021-01-23 23:32:27 UTC

I mean, the competition for RPG is gonna be tuft considering Dungeons and Dragons exist

2021-01-23 23:32:35 UTC

Every company I shopped it to declined, because they want people to write *their* stuff, not new systems. So I looked into self-publishing it.

2021-01-23 23:32:49 UTC

that kinda makes sense, no? charging for printing the books, even if they aren't successful

2021-01-23 23:32:58 UTC

it's a gamble for them

2021-01-23 23:33:01 UTC

yup

2021-01-23 23:33:04 UTC

Not really; there are at least thirty successful game systems on the market.

2021-01-23 23:33:19 UTC

I only know of DD, I've never heard of 29 others, name 3

2021-01-23 23:34:11 UTC

Rifts, Gurps, West End Games Star Wars, World of Darkness, Fusion, Vampire; The Masquerade...

2021-01-23 23:34:21 UTC

DAMN

2021-01-23 23:34:22 UTC

ok

2021-01-23 23:34:23 UTC

u win

2021-01-23 23:35:16 UTC

As far as charging you to print, an actual publishing house will either forego the cost, or charge the first run out of your profits.

2021-01-23 23:35:24 UTC

I never thought about writing an Tabletop RPG, but uhm...with Warcraft making their own, between that and those other 30 ones, It's gonna get heavily competitive, so Imma pass.

I'll have to find something else to write.

2021-01-23 23:36:31 UTC

But as for my game, to self-publish, it would have run me around $15,000 per thousand copies, paperback format, black and white.

2021-01-23 23:36:55 UTC

...Then I would have had to find people to sell them, or schlep them myself.

2021-01-23 23:37:06 UTC

doesn't look like Amazon charges you, but I only receive about on average 60% of the actual profits, if even that. But because they have Ebooks, there's no printing, so I can publish it for free, and at least get a start up on it.

Think I'll start it up there, and once I get a good jumpstart, sell the new stuff elsewhere, as well as hard copies

2021-01-23 23:37:18 UTC

sounds like some serious work

2021-01-23 23:38:00 UTC

Yep. In the end, I just decided to give it away. I'd rather people enjoy it, than it never see the light of day until I'm dead.

2021-01-23 23:38:02 UTC

*if I can get the motivation that is, I've been focused on my fanfic lately* <:KEK:795742276549607456>

2021-01-23 23:38:11 UTC

Yeah I getcha

2021-01-23 23:38:26 UTC

Maybe some big time publishing company will see it, and they'll invest in it, you never know

2021-01-23 23:38:31 UTC

50 Shades of Grey started as a Twilight fanfic...

2021-01-23 23:38:35 UTC

Yes I know

2021-01-23 23:38:49 UTC

but that would require me to completely recreate and re-establish the story itself

2021-01-23 23:39:09 UTC

Over time 50 Shades of Grey became a new story

2021-01-23 23:39:16 UTC

having not much to do with the original franchise

2021-01-23 23:39:25 UTC

I don't want to ruin what's already been established in my Fanfiction

2021-01-23 23:39:30 UTC

If it's not in a distinct universe, file off the serial numbers and go for it. LOL

2021-01-23 23:39:40 UTC

I think DBZ is pretty distinct

2021-01-23 23:39:43 UTC

wait what

2021-01-23 23:39:46 UTC

yup

2021-01-23 23:39:52 UTC

how

2021-01-23 23:40:00 UTC

I can't see the resemblance

2021-01-23 23:40:01 UTC

they changed a few names here and there
