they'd be a possible option if 1. you don't/can't run an ethernet cable and 2. there is too much interference for wifi to work right

like if your neighbor uses a 60s microwave that completely nukes the 2.4ghz spectrum

or if it is a high density area and the wifi spectrum is overcrowded

how good they are will depend massively on how the wiring within the walls of your house is, and there isnt really a good way to find out if they'll work good for you other than trying em

I set my parents up with power line many years ago because the router was in a different room and their desktop had a hard time getting useful wifi speeds and the network printer kept dropping off the network (it still has problems today over ethernet but it happens much less often). It would not be my first choice if there is anyway you can run ethernet or if you can invest in a better wifi setup that may work where you need it. There is also a technology called MoCA that uses coax in your house to transmit ethernet that may be an option if you have coax in both places of your house. It's not cheap but I've heard you can get much better speeds then you can with power line ethernet.

When you throw in the fact with cheap, modern, multi-function inkjets that statement is even more true. I bought a basic ethernet laser printer when I went to college and while it isn't perfect, it's been so much more reliable then that HP my parents use has ever been.

Outside the occasional network quarks, my laser printer's biggest problem is that it pulls over 13 amps whenever it starts a print. When I lived in the dorms, it kept tripping the breaker about 50% of the time. The other 50% of the time all of the lights in the room (and I imagine adjacent rooms) would dim from the voltage sag.

My mom has a Dell B1160W we picked up by a dumpster in an apartment complex. It’s worked flawlessly for four years and prints super fast. It can’t copy or anything though

I rarely need to copy/scan more then a few pages and if I do I can always head over to the university library and use one of the copiers. Most of the time it's only a few pages and I scan from my phone with CamScanner. The quality I get from my phone rear camera with that app is actually better quality at times then even the professional university copiers.

Powerline Ethernet would be my last solution, if you can use MoCa (Ethernet Over Coax) I would do so

Gotta love those laser printers! Mine draws ~1860W when firing up, so i have to have it on its own circuit, 20A just to be safe

What I mean to say is that tech is one of the main reasons we have so many snowflakes, the reason we have Antifa and so many liberals, the reason why free speech is being denied

Tech has pretty much ensured a complete turn from conservative societal norms

I really love the Firefox browser but Mozilla real makes it hard. However, Firefox is really the only browser left that isn't based off Google's Chromium.
