Nice!

2018-11-19 17:15:52 UTC

Anyone ever put cheap sound deadening materials in their car before?

2018-11-19 17:16:05 UTC

Going to try it this week when I replace my speakers.

2018-11-21 01:40:44 UTC

Never used it before, and I've had nice subs in all my vehicles. Never had that horrible rattling from the outside either.

2018-11-21 19:29:01 UTC

It's just loud in the cabin. I think a nice pair set of new tires will solve a lot of the noise. I did place some material on the doors since I had the front door panels off.

2018-11-21 19:29:50 UTC

It reduced noise by 3db on average. Certainly not a ton, but worth the extra 5 minutes per door.

Got good coverage everywhere I could reach inside

New speakers required brackets. Brackets were semi universal. Some cutting on perforations required

Ordering from crutchfields will guarantee that you receive perfectly fitting speakers, brackets, plug and play wiring harnesses and anything else. It's cheap too, only about 5% more than amazon, but really knowledgeable staff.

2018-11-24 21:18:54 UTC

I definitely second that. Crutchfield is the only place I'll ever order from. They've got parts, brackets, mounting options, etc for every application.. and phenomenal customer service.

2018-11-24 21:19:32 UTC

By the way, nice job @Papa Pizzagate, looks very clean 👌

2018-11-24 21:56:42 UTC

TY bruv. $40 and 2 hours. Well worth the investment

2018-11-24 21:57:32 UTC

@DeusVolk Sorry to hear about your head unit being stolen. Crutchfield's website should have what you need to get rolling again.

2018-11-24 22:32:43 UTC

Thanks I’ll check them out.

2018-11-25 00:40:35 UTC

I'd give them a phone call first @DeusVolk one of the very few modern companies that speaking to over the phone will be time/cost saving and helpful.

While I’m here, can anybody recommend anti theft devices, whether they be alarms, steering wheel / brake locks, etc. for a 90s Camry?

<@&435155863217504256> is hitting a starter with a wrench a valid method of preventing this?

This is the starting motor from a Honda air compressor engine. During a cold start the starter remained engaged after the engine started and the key was turned to the off position. Apparently this was my fault because I didn't hit it with a wrench.

2018-11-28 03:27:18 UTC

Hitting a starter with a hammer is a work around for stuck starter. It will need replaced, you are just giving in another lucky start or 3 of life with that work around.

CEL keeps coming on about every week and a half. Throws code for EGR valve. Cleaned EGR valve and all lines 3 times now.. think I'm going to have to replace the valve itself. Diaphram still moves, but a little sticky. No effects on RPMs when I press diaphram during idle.

2018-12-13 19:13:57 UTC

Vehicle type/age?

EGR valves usually aren't that expensive.

2018-12-13 19:14:03 UTC

Oh, does it need inspected @Sonic

2018-12-13 19:50:00 UTC

Trusty 95 Geo Tracker. Easy to work on. CEL hasn't come in over a week since I cleaned it again. Yes, CO requires emissions test every other year. New valve is $60 for federal emissions, $180 for California emissions version. If CEL comes on again, I'm replacing it.

2018-12-13 20:15:10 UTC

AH the tracker, I'd love to lift one and take it rock crawling

2018-12-13 20:16:08 UTC

I have heard of egr and other valves having seasonal issues - sticking in the winter.
