Does anyone have an idea of what it could be?
@Ecarttev year, make, model?
Does it sound like the engine or could it be something else from the front end?
Do you notice loss of power, or is it just a noise?
How would you describe the noise. The more details, the better :^)
2011 Hyundai Elantra
Hmm, no loss of power, and I'm certain it's the engine. It sounds kinda like it does when starting on a cold day
If you haven't changed your oil + filter in some time, I would go for it and see if it changes things - you mention that it might be about time
should be a regular maintenance item for you anyhow
If the problem persists post oil +filter change, let me know and we can start troubleshooting.
@everyone
What is the best vehicle that you've ever owned and why?
Myself, I have owned several rides in my life, a Volvo 850turbo sedan, a 2nd Gen Honda CR-V, A late 90's BMW 3 series, A Honda Shadow 500, a Pontiac Vibe (Toyota Matrix) and possibly one or two rides that I am forgetting - but my favorite vehicle that I ever owned was my 1992 Mercedes 300D 124 body with that had a small turbo.
At the time that I acquired it, it already had 170k miles on it, but it reliably carried me to 298 THOUSAND miles before giving up the ghost. It was previously owned by a friend of my father's who did not want to replace the dying transmission.
Fortunately for me, my father had the EXACT transmission sitting in his back yard. 500 for the vehicle, 250 for the transmission and two weekends of work gave me a car that lasted ~7 years and ~140k miles. The rising costs of diesel fuel as compared to gasoline (modern vehicles now having comparable gasoline efficiency) as well as the increasing expense and rarity of parts forced my hand in deciding to sell it off when the engine decided to give up the ghost.
Never-the-less it was spacious inside, had a fairly luxurious interior, handled remarkable well in the snow for being a HEAVY rear wheel drive car, was an incredibly smooth and comfy ride and was above all - tremendously reliable. The 124 body was one of the last great cars Mercedes ever made in my opinion. Though I have no use for one now - if I came across an exceptionally clean model in the future, I would seriously have to consider purchasing it.
As it aged, it became progressively less reliable, but if I'm honest, I DO miss that car sometimes...
I had a Hyundai Santa Fe that I drove during my last year of school, i had to commute from Wilmington nc to Goldsboro 2x per week for an 8:00-8:50 class
Y u summon me
Trying to breath life and a sense of community into this server. @Tron>
It had belonged to my mom, I sold my f150 since gas was like $5 per gallon then, that Hyundai had about 260k on it when I started driving it, somewhere around the 300k mark the timing belt broke, RIP 2 cylinders. I have a feeling that if the timing belt had been changed when it was supposed to have been, that car would still be on the road
Those korean cars have come a long way. I would buy one now, whereas a decade ago, I would probably not.
Do you recall the year @Px4?
Had to have been early 2000’s, probably an 03-04. It died on me in 2010
That thing had to have been an exception, I remember how shitty those cars were. My wife was driving an 05 sorento when we met. That thing was a massive POS. Barely made it to 90k. When we went to replace it i had to park it behind the dealership in the shade so that it would cool off enough to stop smoking when they came out to figure the trade in value
2004 Honda civic; seemed like anything that went wrong with it was like $80 to fix and I could do it myself. This was good considering I was a dumb 19 year old and afforded me to drive like a maniac without much consequence
Lmao those 4cyl Honda engines are indestructible
@Px4 the new Kia's are honestly pretty nice and seem well built, but I agree - I would never purchase one pre-say 2012 or so..
@Px4 I was culturally enriched and my car was stolen, and they managed to blow up my engine lol. that's why I dont have the civic anymore
Best overall vehicle I’ve ever owned has to be my wife’s Honda CR-V. I love my truck but we get a lot more use out of her car. Great gas mileage, room for 2 car seats, holds value about as well as any car can
@godric 3rd 4th and 7th gen civic's are my favorites
You had a 7th gen, I believe.
@Px4 I lean a bit more towards the Rav4 but the CR-V is a very very close second.
For that market, at least.
I can’t seem to get away from driving my pickup, it’s just too useful when you need it. But for a family type vehicle it’s hard to beat those small/mid SUVs
I'd love to get a pickup in the next few years
Fortunately my father only lives 20 minutes from me and has a little tacoma that I can borrow when push comes to shove.
I recently got a Diesel F350 at a bargain price.
The Ford 6.0 Diesel motor is much maligned for it's numerous recalls. But, I got a 2006, the last year of the motor, when the kinks were worked out.
Ford 6.0 diesel can be purchased for 25% less than other equivalent Diesel alternatives.
I get 12 mpg around town, and 22 mpg on the interstate, which is fantastic for a 1 ton truck.
I have only ever owned a Honda civic. It has lasted me 16 years now.
@micbwilli bastard, living in a non-salt belt state.
Never would last up here lol. How many miles?
@Ecarttev I dont see a reason why your engine would make noise when turning. My thought is when you turn your rotor is scraping.
I think it has about 250k now. Only maybe thing I ever did to it was replace the motor mounts. I have never changed the oil on time or taken good care of it.
